Rifle competition advice needed.

My son, a reformed Marine, living in NJ, asked me about rifle competition similar to IPSC but for rifles. Not looking for F class or Hi Power but simulated combat type of matches. He has an AR type rifle in 5.56 x 45 that is New Jersey legal.
Any ideas for this type of matches in the Northeast? Thought of 3 gun but he has no shotgun at this time.

Does he have a handgun? Two gun, carbine / handgun?

Yes he has an excellent 1911 that was built as a ball gun a few years ago.
