Reloader 16 and the 6.5x47

Here are some velocities with RE 16 and 130 Hybrids, 27" barrel

6.5x47
40.2 Avg 2944
40.4 2954
40.6 2963
40.8 2976

The 40.6 gr load gave 1.5" group, all vertical At 400

Can you give me any insight as to starting load with Re 16 in a 6 xc with 107 gran bullets? How did you find starting load with 6.5/47? Love new powders with no starting load info. Smells like a gene pool depth test.

I just returned from the range, testing my 6.5 x 47 with 136 Scenars. I am getting just about identical speeds with those exact same loads>>but I have a 30" barrel and shooting 6grains heavier. So they are "for real" velocities. I am very excited about this powder!

I did some wild a$$ guessing. I first loaded it in a 6 dasher after getting some info off of Donovan Morans post on RE-16. I shoot h4350 in the dasher and dropped down some from my 4350 numbers and worked up. I found that the RE-16 load of 35.5 and my load of 35.5gr of h4350 gave pretty much identical results.
I dropped down a couple of grains from a 4350 load in 6.5x47 and worked up.
A friend is using RE-16 in a 6.5 Creedmoor and he says the 4350 and RE-16 loads are almost interchangeable.

I don't know what to tell you about the XC. If it was me, I would drop to about 38.5 grains and work up. Get out the chronograph and see what you get. Watch for pressure signs and you should be ok.

A long drop tube is also advisable as the RE-16 is a little more fluffy.

My findings in 6.5 Creedmoor/ 140gr pills coincide with KMart's posting. I get a little increase in velocity (30fps or so in 26" barrel) for the same charge weight using RL-16 as I would have in H4350. It does have more case fill but a 10" drop tube was enough to settle the powder column to an acceptable case fill. Accuracy is approaching my H4350 loads and I feel, with a little work, will be a better load considering the velocity is getting into the heart of a great node.
