Powder ? Heavy bullets .222

Hi what powder would you use for 69gr Sierra tipped match kings
In the .222 rem , I know I am restricted on powder capacity but just want to try it 😀👍
24in barrel (1in9 twist)
The gun is used as my truck gun (200 yards max)
I will be using 55gr blitz kings but have picked up a few boxes
Of the 69gr TMK and would love to give them a go
Obviously looking for very good case fill if not slightly compressed
To get the most out of it (Safely)
Thanks in advance for any knowledgeable info 👍
And what sort of velocity do you think I could achieve?
I do have N140 to hand and is readily available

I used to carry a 222 mag., bat. 100 fps. faster than the 222. I liked the old 50 gr. Sierra Blitz better than any other bullet. With a 9 twist you might get good accuracy, but I would guess that you would be luck to get 2,600, out side 2,700 fps. For hunting the 69 gr. bullets might as well be FMJ bullets. For hunting with the 9 twist I would recommend the 55 gr. Sierra Blitz King or the 55 gr. Hornady SX bullet or similar.

Thanks catfish for your reply
I must admit I was hoping for a bit more velocity than that
I have heard of people shooting the 69gr new tipped match kings out to 600 yards in a 223
On rabbits and crows and they are expanding well (similar expansion to an Amax)
So my thinking was even though the 222 is restricted in powder capacity there would be enough velocity out to 200 yards to get similar expansion
Thanks again 👍

My 3rd edition Vihtavuori manual has some data for the 222 with the Sierra 69 gr. HPBT. Data is for a 23 in. barrel with a 1 in 7 twist. Max loads and velocity follow. Overall length for the loads was 2.126 in.

N130 19.5gr. 2641 fps
N133 21.0gr. 2690 fps
N135 22.1gr. 2728 fps
N140 23.7gr. 2748 fps

I looked at the Miller stability value and a 1 in 10 twist is adequate to stabilize the Sierra 69 gr. HPBT @ 2700 fps. A 1 in 9 twist is needed to stabilize the new longer tipped Sierra 69 gr. MatchKing.

Just an update
Using N140 (24gr) through a drop tube ( no pressure signs)
I got one raged hole and av Velocity was 2850 using Sierra 69gr Tmk
Thanks all who posted 👍

Have you tried out the 53gr V-Max? I get the feeling those will perform better ballistically in every area regarding external ballistics specifically speaking in terms of usage out of a triple deuce. If only Hornady would make an up-sized 53gr V-Max in the ~62 - 65gr weight range but otherwise with the same bullet profile as the 53, IMO that would be a smoker and likely damn near equal the 75gr A-Max ballistically, all things considered (BC, MV, etc,....)

Any opinions on my idea'r?? They'd be muchhh appreciated !!

Thanks gents.

Hi jbhotrod
Thanks for the info , I have tried these on varmints and they expand very well
So I am more than happy with this bullet in my 9twist.222 accuracy, velocity and BC
And damage to target , they are as effective as Amax and blitz kings IMO
👍

often thought about that myself. I'd like to see maybe a 60 or 62 gr. "AR" A-Max (advertised for mag length use in an AR) designed just like the 53. I can't really prove it but I think the 69 TMK/65 SGK will kill predators better than the 53 V-Max at 400 to ~500 out of a 223 capacity case due to the better energy delivered at extended range. I also like the 53 but always believed the 60 would have been a better (or at least different) choice.
