Lyman Borescope

My Lyman Borescope is on its way...just got notice that it had shipped. So they ARE out there.
Who did you order it from? I just saw one of your prior post where you said you ordered it from MidSouth.

I just got off the telephone with Lyman Customer Service. I was told that the borescope new planned release date is October 2015. She said that a small number were released to some vendors that had placed the first orders or as she said the oldest backorders but then Lyman stopped shipping them due to "Quality Issues".

Oh oh...

I paid Graf and Sons for one. Never heard anything form them and did not look at the credit card statement to see if it was charged. If there's trouble I hope I don't get one real soon.

That's the bummer with first generation electronics. I bought maybe the first Ram Ecodiesel 1500 truck to come to south Florida. Today I have had numerous electronic sensors and computer emissions parts replaced. Now I have a bulletin they are going to have to replace my cylinder heads due to carbon issues. First issue ones can be a real bummer when dealing with new electronic technology. That's especially true in the case of my truck that cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Hope this Lyman borescope is a workable product.

Fiat has not been successful at anything in this country. Waiting for their car business to go belly up like the 60 or early 70's.

Well, I have just taken a first look at it. Its definitely not a Hawkeye, but so far it has answered some questions I had about some of my barrels, and caused me to ask new ones. The image on the monitor is better than the saved images. The .223 images are from a worn out Savage barrel. The pic of the Savage .308 throat is of a factory barrel with about 800 rounds through it.

^^^ being able to see & take bore pictures is better than not knowing even if the pictures are not perfect.

Yes I ordered it from MidSouth. If I have a quality control issue, it will go back and Lyman will hear about it. If that was the case, they should have recalled them!

Yeah, the pics were okay, and better if you adjusted the Levels in Photoshop. The monitor and pic ability were a really nice feature. Talked with Lyman, told them the problem and suggested some changes. I think they must be pretty frustrated with getting this thing out there! Told me to send it back to MidSouth, so I called them and they were great...sent me a return FedEx label. They were going to put me at the top of the list for a replacement, but I chose to take a refund. Will wait awhile until its tested more thoroughly by the consumer. I have lived this long without one so I can wait a while longer! LOL

Midwayusa add that came out today has them in it...BUT 0 in stock..."coming soon", a current add out with no stock to sell, they fell asleep again.

Xhuntress,
I have mine being delivered FedEx tomorrow-probably early evening if they hold true to form.
What "problems" exactly were you having and what should I look for?
anything you can add will be greatly appreciated.
I will post photos of what I get once I get a couple of free hours to read manuals and get familiar.
Cutting the pastures is higher priority now than playing with the new toy but I will try to expedite the borescoping for members to see and evaluate.

Gary, didn't get to use it long enough to find any other problem except the tip coming off. It came off on mine when I took the little rubber cap off the third time I used it. I got it back on, but the holes for the rivets looked to be bigger than the head of the rivet and it would not stay in place. You will find that the cord wants to twist up when you turn the scope in the barrel so be aware of that. Would be nice it there was a swivel. I found that the pics were okay, but better if you put them in Photoshop or similar graphics program and adjusted the levels.

Let us know how yours turns out.

I haven't tried "all" the cheap scopes on ebay but did try a couple that were around $200 which included a hand held digital screen or could be used with your computer and I returned them for refunds. I had seen through a couple of Hawkeye borescopes and I guess I was comparing those to the Hawkeye and was disappointed in them. I ended up buying a Hawkeye which is a great borescope. Hopefully Lyman will correct their "Quality Issues" and make a reasonably priced digital scope available for the shooting community.

No good. Ive tried a few and like snakepit, I also returned them. Even tried a $250 AC Delco cam with monitor, returned it. Tried another one for $300, returned it as well. So I can't imagine the cheaper ones are better. Those pics from the Lyman posted by Xhuntress look dang good compared to the images from the ebay bore cams I tried. Hope Lyman gets it all ready to rock here soon. Would definitely like to try one out.

Xhuntress,

Fedex emailed me to say my package is delayed and I will receive it today (07/30) by the end of the day so the review will be pushed back a couple of days as cutting the fields has been hampered by thunderstorms - drier weather forecast for next couple of days and cutting takes a priority.
Thanks for the heads up on the borescope - will see-literally- what comes of it.
