Hydro Case Forming under Hydraulic Power

PA Jeep

Gold $$ Contributor
Has anyone tried to drive their hydro form dies with a hydraulic porta power or conventional hydraulic ram? I'm growing tired of smacking my dies with a hammer. I have a machine shop and a small weld/fab operation so making a hydraulic ram above my die/press is no big deal. I'm specifically wondering about speed and system pressure to get the job done effectively. Thanks for any thoughts.

I agree with Dusty. The process requires a short spike of high pressure, otherwise the leak will become an issue.

I wonder if a good air hammer would work? You could modify a bit to fit the plunger so it wouldn't slip off all the time.

An air cylinder with wide open exhaust and a hammer on the end of the shaft fired by the proper red hat solenoid valve would work.
