Hodgen Powder

I have read several articals that state H4350 & IMR4350 are the same powder now since Hodgen own the IMR name. Load data is the same for both. Does anyone know for sure if this is correct?

It is not>>>>visually you can see that IMR 4350 has considerably longer kernels for powder. IMR 4350 is "generally" a half of a shade faster (depending on lot to lot) than H4350>>>>but they are very close in burn rate..

They come from opposite sides of the planet. H4350 is rebadged ADI AR-2209 and is made in the Thales / ADI plant in New South Wales, Australia.

IMR-4350 is today's take on the original Dupont Industries powder, but made these days by General Dynamics Canada in its Valleyfield, Quebec Province factory.

As stated, they have similar uses and should give similar performance being around the same burning rate value and having identical nominal specific energy values of 3,760 Kj/Kg. The Hodgdon / ADI version though uses 'Extreme' technology so should be less temperature affected than the IMR version. GD Valleyfield has recently introduced IMR-4451 which is a modern higher-technology and shorter-cut powder in the same general class as the two 4350s and which is claimed to be exceptionally unaffected by temperature change as well as being 'greener' having lost various carcinogenic chemical components and also has an anti barrel fouling additive in the recipe.

Having A hard time finding H4350 to load for my new 6XC

Be nice to have these Powder Company's back in the US!!
Thanks John

You need to try RL-16... It is in the same burn rate as either IMR 4350 and H4350. It is very temp stable, will give 40+f.p.s. increase in velocity and in my limited experience, gives very low e.s.'s with the right load.

Yes I know they are not the same. Was just stating that I had the other two powders. Others who shoot the 6XC have used the reloader 15 and 4831sc powder and had good luck with it on 6xc.

I have interest in the IMR powders because they are made in Canada and often more available than the Hodgdon stuff from Australia. I have found a couple of tests comparing the new IMR Enduron powder to the Hodgdon Extreme powder. One at the Accurate Shooter site found minimal difference between the H4350 and the IMR-4451, with the H4350 having a slight edge. The other article which appears to be more comprehensive, found that there was still a significant benefit in temperature insensitivity of the H4350 over the IMR-4451. The links to each article are below. This graph is probably most telling.

I made A mistake on my earlyer post when I said others were using Reloader 15 for the 6XC.
It is Reloader 17 they are using & having good luck with.
