Free Float 1903 Springfield

Anybody ever tried to free float a 1903 Springfield?

My barrel already floats in the stock and handguard.

Wondering how to go about floating the upper barrel band so it touches wood only...? Thoughts?

Something different anyways...

As a general rule, rifles with "stuff" attached to, or touching the barrel in front of the ring work best with some pressure to dampen the barrel somewhat. 1903, M1, M14 as examples. 1903's seem to work best with some upward pressure at the front band while clearances everywhere else along the barrel.
