For anyone using an AMP

I have two Ken Lights that work flawlessly, maybe takes a minute to get setup but every piece of brass seems perfect just a few minutes and 50 or even 100 are done! I rarely do more than 100 at a time. On a totally serious note what makes the Amp so much better?....less setup time? Faster? I can’t imagine it Anneals any better. Always want better, faster and more precise stuff.

Wayne. I bought a Benchsource when I first started shooting in competitive SR score. while it was not bad it was a pain in the ass to set up. I don't have a lot of space so I couldn't keep it set-up. Then the AMP came out and I bought one. Gone was the pain in the ass set-up of the two torches and getting the right height and spacing of the torch heads to the brass cases. Then there is no more tempilaq to screw around with. There is no way anybody is going to convince me that they can get the exact temperature that is required to properly anneal the brass, sure you can come close enough to do the job but it's not an exact science when using a flame. I can set up my AMP in less than 5 minutes and I can anneal anywhere. I can even set it up in my motorhome and anneal right on the dining room table. I couldn't to that with a torch annealer. I shake my head ever time when I hear people bitch about how fast they want things done and annealing is just an example. They say well my annealer can do this many cases in 2 minutes which is 20 cases more than your AMP can do in the same amount of time, REALLY! OMG get a life. Sit back and smell the roses. Life isn't about doing everything faster. I've owned 3 Mark 1's and sold them all and just own one Mark 2. You can't beat an annealer that can analyze the exact amount of induction that it takes to properly anneal a neck turned case like the AMP does. Bottom line, It's just a better mousetrap. Once you buy one and use it you'll say to yourself this is the best 1300 bucks that I've ever spent on a reloading related tool.

jim,
Thank you for the detailed report. This is what I was wanting to hear. The $1300 bucks doesn’t concern me. Number one is quality, I know I had a learning curve with the Annealer I own but feel confident I get great results but they are a pain to setup between different cartridges. Speed is always a issue with me I run a cattle ranch and 12 to 16 hours a day an electrician in a sawmill so time always has been and always will be very important to me but I’m very interested in this Annealer I need to find someone who owns one and watch it work I guess, I search YouTube real fast. Thank you.

Yep, I owned a Mark 1, sold that and bought a Mark 2. I put up a little brass annealing service on Facebook and I have guys all over the country sending me their brass. It's an awesome unit for sure!!

Hey, anyone interested in a couple of these for a super reasonable cost? I filled them both up and then some, so I went to a storage box...

As far as the time it takes to anneal a case with an AMP, I've timed what I can do if I was in a hurry just for shits and giggles. I can do one case every 8 seconds.

If the $1300 isn't a stumbling block, pop for the case feeder. Fill it up as you pass by while doing whatever. I doubt you would ever have a problem dumping it should you decide to.

I have an upgradeable Mark 1 (SN above 160050). Is there any reason I shouldn't spend the $195.

I purchased the firmware upgrade as soon as it came out. I have yet to put a newer version on that would remove the sort function which AMP declared does not work.

I use the analyze function on brass that does not have an exact lot number listed in the AMP settings chart, otherwise I just use the chart data. Main reason here is I have sent brass to AMP in the past and they simply validated that it was the exact same setting as the lot listed in the chart.

So, if your lots are listed then I see no point in upgrading. The inverse is true if you have lots that are not listed.

I don't recall ever seeing a used one for sale. I doubt mine will make it to MY Estate Sale.
