Too many have infiltrated to accurateshooter/6mmBR.
You're right about that Dan. The thread about the scopes and reticles in Hollywood is a good example.

Deja Vu of the Dirty Harry movie which resulted in buku sales of S&W 29's in .44 Magnum.Just from this new movie alone, smart $$ says buy all the stock you can in companies like Nightforce, Barret and the like. Remington ? ......maybe if they market a cheap look-alike in a tupperware stock. Move over Bruce Lee inspired ninja's, here come droves of sniper wannabees.

Better yet, invest in Malpaso. Clint Eastwood's production co. He could use the extra money :o ;D

I started this topic because I thought the video was informative about the evolution of some of the military sniper rifles and it has turned into a bashing of snipershide.com. Some people when they post get off the topic yet still post informative information which I often find very interesting and helpful while others get off the topic just to complain.

Seems like it comes under the heading of 'You have to start some where!'. Hopefully some of the newer shooters will become interested in Shooting Sports and that when they do show up at Long Range events someone there will help them and make them feel welcome.
That is pretty much what happened to me after reading the first book on Hathcock. Now I shoot every match I possibly can all year long.

Snakepit Sorry but I hate seeing guys buy something just cause they think its going to make them shoot better. Yes there are some nice thing on the sight, I wasn't bashing Sniperhide.com there are, from what I can see some very Knowlegeable people. But let me give you an example, A close friend of mine, who I took shooting last year. I let him shoot one of my H.G. in a match needles to say he won his relay, first time. Then came in 3rd in the shoot off. Shot three more matches and won those also. Know comes the problem he is looking on all these web sites and finding thing that he thinks he needs. So I have to slow him down and explain why he doesn't need the things he is looking at. Thats the reason we are here to slow these guys down and help them understand, you don't need all the gadgets they see to shoot a match.

This thread on the evolution of sniper rifles brings back memories of my growing into shooting. Even today there is little help in my area other than you guys and the internet. My first highpower rifle was an old 03 in Rem I think (have to look in safe to be sure). Bought in 1968 for 25 dollars. Built a shooting bench against a persimmon tree on my dad's hay field and you can imagine the results I got with military ammo, no stores around carried rifle ammo. First day of deer season the community hunting club would not let me use it because it was too dangerous. That has been some years back and I still do not know 5 things about sniper rifles but I like reading about all of it. Thank you all

What makes a sniper rifle a sniper rifle, is…the guy behind the trigger ;)

Joe Salt, thanks for the reply. In my case I never go to the Sniperhide website and in fact other than from the title do not even know much about it. When I got into long range shooting and reloading a few years ago I found out about AccurateShooter.com. That and its members have been my go to website for information although once in a while I do go to BenchRest.com. So I am a product of this site, the great people on it and my friends at the gun club I belong to. I just thought the video I posted was interesting and I was just trying to pass it along. By the way if I want to know about current military sniper shooting I just go to my son who is in Special Forces for information.

"Can't say as I can agree with the info from the military guys on precision shooting as they don't even load there own ammo or tune the load to the gun there[sic] shooting."

Do you think that you represent the only precision shooters in the world.

If you were dropped in a strange place, with no sighters, no bench with seat, with no roof over you, no front tripod, no rear heavy sand bag, and no field of 10,000 spinning yellow wind flags, and given a target at...

... whoops, I don't know how far, but you have to figure it out and try to get the wind right, without flags or sighterrs, hit it with the first (and only) shot...

I think you would fail miserably, and come home in a body bag.
