Fast 40 gr. 223 loads?

My friend just found out about 40 gr. 223's, and wants to see what people are using.

So far I read N133, Ramshot X-terminator, H335, and speeds from 3650 to 3800. I realize they have to be worked up, but I have one at 3800 I will keep till my supply of the powder,no more available) is gone.

So If you have a nice speedy 40 grain dogbuster, let me know.

Thanks,

HM

halfmile,
27.5 grn. H335, CCI small mag. primer, 40 grn. Nosler Ballistic Tip exits my Sako at approx. 3400 ft/s. and is deadly accurate. I personally don't push a .223 much more than that. If I want more speed, I reach for my .22-250 Ackley which will launch a 50 grn. Nosler Ballistic Tip at over 4100 ft/s.

N-133 may be a little hard to come by right now, but you will get close to 4000 fps out of the 40 depending on the rifle of course. The accuracy will be bug hole type.

Also, the 50's with the 133 get very fast speed with BR accuracy out of my rifles.

Be aware that lot to lot variations of 133 can vary, so be careful of duplicating someone else's loads. I know that my loads may blow the primers in your rifle. I would start off at 25.5g with the 50's and 26 with the 40's and go up from there.

You may have to use a long drop tube and tap the case to get the most powder in the case with 133. I have always wanted to try the N-130 with the 40's. Good luck!

I agree with keith about N133 in 223's as far as using N130 with 40's that is my combo in my 222 will have to try it in my 223. RL10x works well too.

In my .223's, AA2015BR shoots really well. This is the older stuff. The newer XMR shoots well to and seems to give about the same velocities, but accuracy was at a different speed. Using AA2015 and Rem7.5 primer, a 40BalTip is doing right at 4000 through a 26.5" Shilen barrel. In a 20" barrelled truck gun with a very tight chamber, the load is 27.5/VV133 and a 40 doing 3895. It shoots pretty flat. All brass is IMI.
