Best .277 Bullet for the Largest Game (Moose, Elk, Bears)

What do you all reckon is the best .277 caliber bullet for the largest North American big game that is reasonably hunted with a 270 Win.? I'm thinking moose, elk, and bears.

Back in the 80's I took a huge Canadian Moose with my 270, and using a Barnes 160. No one else made .277 bullets that big. Today, I'd use the Nosler Partition. I normally shoot Nosler Partitions in a 130 grain and both the wife and I have taken many elk etc with this bullet.. For moose I'd go with a 160 Nosler..

Bullets that are still made and available are as follow...

Woodleigh 150 gr PP ( Protected Point )

Swift 150 gr A-Frame

Speer 150 gr Grand Slam

Nosler 150 gr & 160 gr Partition

Barnes 130 - 140 & 150 TSX

A lot of love for the Nosler Partitions! The 160-gr. Partition looks like a natural, but they do tend to retain only about 2/3 of the weight of Partitions with the loss of the front core. I was wondering whether something like the Swift A-Frame, with bonded front core, might do better.

My dad shot a 270 Wby for deer and elk for about as many years as I can remember. He has a shelf full of different .277 bullets but no matter what he tried, he always shot Nosler Ballistic Tips on deer and Partitions for elk. I was never as big of a 270 fan as he was so I used a variety of different things over the years, but he always killed them just as dead as anything I ever used.

That is what and why the Nosler partitions were designed too do. Open the frontal area for tissue shock/damage and the rear portion to continue to penetrate and make a good wound/bleeding channel. More often than not, they exit also, allowing more chance for a good blood trail, if the animal does manage to walk away some.

Well Partitions are good bullets for sure. I've used many in the past. But don't you think that more effective killing power occurs with bullets that form a mushroom at the same time as retaining most of their weight (perhaps 90%) as they pass through the vital organs?
