Barking dog

Anybody know if any of the many high frequency devices work ?

Six pounds of pure dehydrated hell thinks he's six feet tall.

There are quite a few choices-----any good experience with a particular model ?

Will appreciate replies.

I use a Dazer II, very effective, just not for long range.

I don't use it for barking dogs specifically, but it does make a barking dog stop barking..............

Only dog it didn't work on was a Blue Heeler that was determined to get into my vehicle with me. I had to alter his mood with other means.

I train dogs as a hobby. Basics almost to advanced gundog, but I send mine to a pro trainer for advanced gundog training. Run AKC and UKC competitions. Im no pro, just amateur division. I got everything short of a $25k+ dog trailer. We have multiple $10k -$25k dollar pure breed very high end labs that are amoung the best bred dogs in the united states...

A whistle aint gonna do jack for what you want. Aint even feasible, dang near a gimmick.

You need a bark collar. It delivers different electronic stimulations depending on what shock setting you put it on. The dog barks, it turns on, barks again delivers stimulation. Turn it up until the dog barks and the dog gets uncomfortable stimulation. Every dog has different levels of tolerance. I have one soft dog it dont take much, I got others that takr full power and just flinch...

I use dogtra electronics for everything. I have they high end model, its like $80-100. You could get away with the cheaper models. The bark collar is the best training tool, you have to have instant correction, otherwise they dont know what they are getting corrected/stimulation for.

A dog pees in the house, 5 min later you yell no and give correction.. well the dog dont know why your yelling and getting after it, its not instant. Same prinipal, you have to catch the dog in the act and give correction instantly..

I kind of like the remote control electric shock collar that you can trigger at the time that you catch the barking that you hate the most. You have to spend the time paying attention with the yapper though. Most serious training involves your time also. I almost think that dog training is for us, not them. jd

I bought a lab from a high dollar trainer many years ago. You are right about the dog not understanding when you try to correct him 5 minutes later. The trainer told me to take the dog outside frequently to let him pee and roam a few minutes. Then you never have to deal with it happening in the house. That one worked for me for years.

Yep. As long as they know where to go and have the opportunity to... our females I had house trained in two weeks or less. Our male, well that sob liked to walk and pee and was more more hard headed about it

I bought one off eBay called "Barx Buddy" and it seems to work pretty well. This is used for all the neighborhood dogs that go bonkers when we take our dog for a walk. We also use it as a training tool when we catch our dog eating the cat's food.

This unit has a flashing strobe and laser pointer built in. A quick burst from the Barx-buddy is enough to to discourage the other dogs from barking and makes sure the cat can eat

I purchased one of the noise generators that responded to a bark, and it did work to some degree for a while, but it quit working after only a few months. Five dogs, all the barkiest kind. Poodles and chihuahuas and a neighbor who didn't care.

A sound generator, an amplifier and speaker, a program to generate random high pitched sounds at random intervals between 1 and 4 am. When your neighbor starts losing sleep, the dog will get properly trained.

If that seems like a lot of work, you might mention to your neighbor that dogs generally bark when the owner is away. I always knew when my neighbors had left for the weekend because their dogs were out in the yard at night and barking all night long at every leaf that blew. I got so tired of it I lit off a cherry bomb in my backyard at two in the morning. Two days later I saw the carpet cleaning van next door.

Your dog or someone else's dog?

We use a Garmin collar on our lab. He doesn't bark when I am in sight, but we like to let him out on nice days. He doesn't like cats or birds of prey, and can bark A LOT.

I like the Garmin cause it has a bark correction counter. You can see if the setting you are using is effective and adjust. Also indicates if the collar is even necessary.

I prefer the collar over any visial/audio stimulus as I do not want to condition my dog to those types of sensory inputs. I want to be able to sleep during midwest thunderstorms and bring my buddy shooting.

Just curious, if the dog is made to quit barking with one of these electronic things. Would it associate barking with a jolt or whatever and not bark if an intruder would try to come in your house for fear of getting jolted?

Good question, one that I was concerned about. Apparently, Garmin claims to be able to detect the difference from a "nuisance" bark and a warning bark. I have no idea if it works. However, it does not initiate a correction until 3 barks are detected, and we did not observe a negative impact on his behavior for warning barks.

This is our dog----a chihuahua that weighs about 6# and barks at just about anything that moves.

I'm and old pointer type and don't know much about dealing with such small critters.

Don't know how durable these little guys are and don't want to damage him.

I use a manual shock collar for my dog. She only gets shocked if she ignores a command to stop and she never gets reprimanded for a warning bark.

My dad got a rescue, Fox terrier I think. Previous owner did something to his voice box cuz he cant bark he sounds like a Turkey. Its sorta sad especially since he likes to hunt stuff and when he barks you cant hear him unless your close.

I'm sure if you called Dogtra or one of the other reputable E-collar manufacturers, they could find what you need for a smaller dog. At the end of the day, a dog is a dog. From the littlest
fluffy lap dog, to the a-hole with teeth dragging Mr. Didntdonuffin out of car, they all are just dogs.

So your dogs barks. That's what dogs do. They bark. pee and poop. Get used to it.

Hanging a collar on your best friend and zapping him because he does what all dogs do seems to be cruel. Tell you what you should do before you hang one of these devices around your dogs neck. Put it around your own neck and try it.
