Anything better than graphite?

#5 for Imperial but I also use STOS Lubricant. Got a 2 oz container years ago and it lasts a long time and works well.

How do you remove the wax.
It doesnt matter?
Dont use much, just leave it?
Walnut vibrate?
Hot dish soap?
Solvent (alcohol lighter fluid stove fuel) ?
Signed...
Also Mr Black Fingers
Ps HoBo oil is good.

Are you dipping the case neck in pure graphite powder? Probably too much and that's the mess.

I have a small container with clip on lid (like a take away sauce container) fill it with #7 lead shot to the depth of your case neck length, and pour a liberal amount of graphite powder in, around 10 parts lead shot to 1 part graphite. Before use, give it a shake and the shot gets coated with graphite. Then dip your cases in and it coats inside and out with a very thin graphite. I haven't stuck a case in bushing dies or expanders using this method. I use a lee lube for FLS though.

Warning: this method won't work if you live in California apparently..... use steel shot instead

Either make a "DIY" applicator like argh suggested, or get the Redding "kit" that comes with an applicator (that contains small ceramic balls) and a spare tub of graphite powder. Then, I would suggest that instead of dipping the case into this applicator (which covers the outside of the case neck - and is probably the cause of your complaint) - take the applicator to the mandrel and only coat the mandrel.

If I'm putting graphite inside the necks, I use a ladies mascara brush so as to only get inside the neck. When I am expanding up for turning, I prefer mink oil to Imperial.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd
