7STW best powder??

Hi all.
Quick question, what has been the most accurate powder in the 7STW with 168-175gr bullets?
I was thinking RETUMBO/RE25/H1000?

Thanks.

All have about the same burn rate if memory serves. I have been using H1000 since it was a wild cat. Many dead critters over the decades.

I found that IMR 7828 was best in 150 class bullets and H 1000 in 160's and up in my STWs. Both of mine shot 1/4 moa with these combos. The 150 TSX at 3425 was my favorite.

It has been a few years back but a couple of my friends had 7 STWs and they found IMR7828 was best at that time with 120 to 154 gr bullets. Other slow burners have come out since then. I run Retumbo in my 264 Win. mag and it is awesome.

Case volume and bullet weight (175gr+), would put it in RL33 teritory.

You'll likely get decent velocities with RL25, but i doubt you'd be happy with the accuracy.
I gave up on it in my Rem Mag for that reason.

For the 175/180 class bullets (cup and core):

Retumbo
VVN-570
Norma N-217

All very similar in burn rate and pressure. I use all three but usually rely on Retumbo.

Thanks all.
The 3 powders listed are the one’s easily obtained here in Down Under. IMR powders are unobtainium here.
I can get Vhit powders, but supply is spotty at best.
I will try RETUMBO first up, then H1000 and then RE25.
RE25 gives me awesome accuracy in 2 of 4 300WM rifles I have. H1000 is all I use in my comp guns in the same cartridge but RETUMBO has been looking good also with 210gr RDF’s.
My Rem LR loves 210gr ABLR with 80gr of RETUMBO too.

Cheers.

IMR 7828 with 140g Accubonds. RL 25 with 160g Nosler Partitions. I had some real nice groups with RL 25 and the 160s at 500 yds. SD was 10 for 2 3 shot strings , groups were 2.25 inches and one just under 2 inches.

RL 22 is what I use in my STW from 140s to 195s. good velocity and good accuracy.

My deer load for years was 81grs of RL22, 140gr Ballistic Tip or Accubond, velocity of 3565fps.

I am currently using 195 EOL and they are going 2950fps with RL22

R26.

h1000 @ 73.5 gr, fed 215 match primer with 154gr interlocks running around 2750fps, shoots in the .2s in a rem 700stw sendero and a 700 stw dm, when ever you can find the h1000.

Ok thanks all.
Will give RE26 a try.
Plenty of H1000 here in Oz.

Cheers.
The 7STW was my first big magnum. It was quite a while back but there was some head stamped brass around then. H1000 was my choice with some Retumbo loads mixed in there too. It was not fussy. It is maybe the best all around 7mm our there in magnum class. Accuracy was always spot on and at any velocity. I remember taking my longest kill shot on a prairie dog with it; just over 1600 yards. That 140 gr bullet was making just above the 3500 FPS mark at muzzle. Oddly enough, that was the only critter I eve killed with it. I moved on to other toys and the STW moved on to another happy owner.

What do you plan to run for brass? Once the Remington and WW brass became unavailable, I couldn't find anything that could run at STW pressures and finally gave up on the STW as a result. I got a dozen firings out of my WW brass but the Nosler only made it two or three

Are any of you STW shooters logging barrel life or is your round count low enough that it doesn't matter?

I've been thinking about a 7mm 'cat based on a 300 norma or 338 LM or 300PRC as a way to get a hot 7mm with no belt.
