6.5x47 bullet choices

just started my new build, dual mid to long range fclass rig. curious about what these seem to like? Planning on bergers 140gr my main question is has anyone found accuracy of the vld hunting or target bullets, I'm not leaving the hybrids out of question either, just hoping to minimize round count on my new barrel thanks for any input

Hi,
I cant help with the 140gr as my freebore is to short but I can say the 130Vld target and hunting bergers fly the same in my rifle same load aswell so cant see the 140gr been any different but best leave tha for somone using them to comment.

Cheers Trev.

Most 6.5x47's don't really care for the 140's as a rule, but some of them do..
The 123's on the other hand, do a stand up job....
I shoot the 140 VLD's in the hunting and target flavor in my 6.5x47 Ackley and hard to tell the difference....

Try EPS 136 gr. 635 bullets. Most consistent bullets you will find. once your set up you will not need to sort bullets. They are all the same. Saves you a heap of time and frustration. I have shot around 13,000 of his 6mm bullets and no longer sit all winter sorting bullets and double seating when loading them. Yes I can make other bullets be competitive but only if I but lots of extra hours into each box. Get on the eps web site and give Jamie a call. You will see him on here as tinman.

I've been working up the new Sierra 130 TMKs in a 6.5x47, showing promise so far, hopefully I can get out to the range again this weekend to see if some of the better groups will back themselves up but it seems like a nice choice for the Lapua chambering.

I'll be interested to hear what you come up with.

Dont over look lapua 120L with H4350 40g-41g jammed in .005 these are killer @600yard and 1000y. The bc is not as high as some other bullets but the x count makes up for it:). Also if you watch graf & son they're on sale for about $275. per 1000.

My thin hunting barrel 1-8.5 loves this bullet.

Never had great results with the 140s in the Lapua. Try Berger 130 hunting VLD with 43gr of H4350 compressed and BR4 primers. It yields a little over 3000fps with one little hole that you need a caliper to measure after 5 shots from my 700 action with a kreiger barrel . Seated around .005 off the lands this load will shoot equally well in my 27" barrel or my 20" Patrol rifle. I only lose 100 fps in the shorter barrel believe it or not!

Thanks guys, great info, has anyone compared the hunting vs, target vlds, it shouldn't make any difference but just curious?

on my gun with new barrel it shoots 130&140s same load. savage action new 28in brux barrel. this gun loves h-4350. have started shooting hybreds 140s. they are great. 1st group@ 100yds 3 shots .052 2nd @ 100yds 3 shots .073 10 shots @ 100 .184 3shots@400yds 1.048. took it out yesterday to 1400yds and hit 18in plate 4 out of 5 shots. I love this gun! all loads out of gun 40grs h-4350.

Hunting are noticeably more accurate than the target version. Berger tech will tell you that (thinner jacket) and I have confirmed it personally. If you check the supply houses, they have plenty of target VLD's but most are out of hunting. That alone should tell you something.

Hunting are more accurate. Berger confirms it and I have experienced it. I run 140's at 2790fps with RL17 out of a 26in BHW polygon. The 140 is a good choice. The BC is significantly greater than the 130's and you will catch up and pass them at longer ranges.

Mine shoots the 130 TMK'S very well also, 40.3 great h4350 and br2 or 450 primers, shoots the 130 VLD hunting bullets very well also at 40.1 gr
