6.5x47 at 300 yards

Took the Bat M HG out this evening to compare the 123 SMK to the 130 VLDH at 300 yards and they actually shoot pretty dang close to one another. The Berger’s did edge out the Sierras by just .043

Load data is

Sierra 123 MK

I am about to try the Sierra 123 Closed Tip projectiles for the first time. Just got a box of 500. I have used the Berger 130s and the Lapua Scenar L 120s in my 6.5x47 and like them, but wanted to try a pointed bullet before I invested in a cutter and closing die set up.

That's amazing. I've had a 47 in one flavor or another for several years. Don't think I've ever explored that little H4350 with the 130s. With accuracy like that, I think I will. Who cares how fast it's going for 3-400 yard stuff.

Bob, I have tried all of them. My 6.5x47L loves the SMK 120's and the 123 Scenar's.

I found it's cheaper, and especially if you short of time, to have one of the Vendor's here point the bullets for you. I send them in 1,000 at a time, and I have send 2,000 in a few times as well. John Hoover will weigh/sort them which makes the process very friendly.

Also http://www.bulletbrassprep.com/services.html , Buckeye Bullets and Brass, LLC (1shot) . . .

And D J Brass Service.

I have used all 3, and all are good. Their backlog is the only reason I use 3.

There are more I am sure, I don't remember their names at the moment.

8 twist, 4 shot groups, any questions, just ask

Best I could do with 130 grain Berger's, 8 twist, my 47 loves the 120 & 123's, nutin heavier.

FWIW, 139 Lapua Scenars

I have shot 5 / 6.5 x 47s. All but 1 were "straight 8" twists. They can shoot amazingly well with everything from the 120s to the 142s. However, the 1 barrel that was NOT a "straight 8" was an 8.5 twist. That barrel shot both the 123 Scenars and the Berger 130 VLDs better than any other barrel. Was it because it was a really excellent barrel or was it the result of a 1/2 twist slower and really made the accuracy potential of the lighter bullets shine? I don't know. But I can tell you I shot some amazing groups with that barrel!! I have come to the conclusion after shooting NUMEROUS barrels with slightly MORE twist than necessary or twists right on the money, the ones with "correct" twists if you will, at least seemed to me to have an accuracy edge. This is not to say the slightly faster twists did not shoot well>>>but maybe not quite as well as the absolute correct twist. Just some food for thought when considering the purchase of a new barrel down the road.

FWIW, if I were to settle on one rifle for LR F/Class shooting, it would have to be the 6.5x47L shooting 123 Scenar's! I posted pictures above, and I have shot all of those loads @ 600 yards with the 123 Scenar's performing the best IMO.

If I needed a heavier rifle for the day, my choice would be my 284 Winchester. If it's a very windy day, this is the rifle I use.

That's some great shooting!
What length did your rifle like them at?
