6.5 bullet performance

Good evening

I was wondering if any of you had any real experience with the 130 grain Berger vld and the 135 classic game hunter? In the past I was using the 130vld out of a 6.5-47 on whitetail weighting from 160 pounds to 200 pounds, distances were from 100 yards to 340yards. With the vld I had very good performance with exit wounds and all heart lung shots.
This year switched to the 135 classic hunter same load same rifle shot 4 bucks from 60 yards to 150 yards all same shot placement heart lungs. These not one exit wound expanded very fast just off the hide with lots of damage inside, they all ran from 50 to 100 yards with no blood trail.

I'm wondering what is the difference between the jackets thickness if any or is it the nose point that is making the difference?

Anyone using the Sierra 130 game changers with better results?

Thanks bulldog

The game changers will leave an exit on most any shot. Very tough bullet, similar to an accubond.

↑ "game changers will leave exit on most any shot" are we talking about Sierra and 130gr or 140grs? Thks

I was thinking the 130 in my 6.5-47 for whitetail. I don't know why the vld left exit wounds

Are the sierra game changer and the hornady sst and nosler accubond all the same type of bullet?

Just make sure you use a hunting bullet for hunting and not a target bullet for hunting. There is no need today to use target bullets for hunting. Not saying you are doing this just making a public service announcement! Cheers!

I have a 6.5-06 that I've shot a few deer with. The 129gr SST has been a good performer, as has the 120gr Nosler Ballistic tip and the plain old Sierra Pro-Hunter 120gr. Nothing but one shot kills and plenty of blood trail if you need it with all 3 of those bullets. JME. YMMV. WD

Just killed two does couple days ago in Georgia. Used one of my 260 AI’s with Sierra 130 Game Changers.

First one high in shoulder DRT. Second one behind shoulder and watched bullet blow out hair on pass through. Then watched bullet path go 75 more yards and blow up an ice cloud when it hit a bank. Picture shows exit hole.

Easy blood trail for 50 yards.

Meat wagon with both does loaded and heading for processor.

I used the 143 eldx on a 130 lb. doe a few years ago. 260AI at 175 yards. Dropped her straight down. Not your original question but dropped a 175 lb buck last year with a .243, 103 gr. eldx at 100 yards. I like the bullet. All that being said, the Sierra game changer looks great and I want to try it. Bergers are wonderful bullets, but hunting is hunting, it's thick here and I like two holes.

Thank you for all the post but my original question was why the difference performance from the classic to the vld? That's what I don't understand, in the 47 velocity range of fps

Thinner jacket perhaps. I don't proclaim to be an expert, and haven't tried every bullet on deer so hopefully you will get your original question answered. More than likely you''ll get more of what " works for me" stuff which I apologize for in my case. Just giving you experiences with what I have used, which is what these other boys are doing. No intentional derail.
