.243 1-10 twist howa

ok i have a Howa/Axiom Varminter .243 24" heavy barrel 1-10 twist.

1. can i get the 105 AMAX to stabaliz and whats a decent starter load

2. whats a good load for the 75 VMAX. i am going to need atleast a 250 yard 1.5" groop

I shoot the 105 AMax in 243AI with 1-8" and its very accurate (H4831SC and Wolf LR). General rule says 1-10" is not fast enough but wouldn't hurt to try.

MJ,

How much H4831SC in your load? I tried some fire forming loads and they were very consistent across the chrony. I fireformed with 42.5gr of H4831 behind a 105 Amax.

Please keep in mind this is in a 243AI case (not a forming load): Lapua case with 44.5g H4831SC, 105 AMax, Wolf LR. This is not a real hot load but gives me about 0.5 MOA at 100 yds from a Shilen prefit Savage barrel (1-8") at 2955 fps.

With my 1 in 10 twist 243 barrel the 105g bullets wouldnt stablize, I found the berger 95g VLD and Lapua 90g scenar to give exellent acuracy out to 600y.

thank you for the info guys. i think im going to go with the 95g nosler balistic tip for deer hunting and maby the 87g vmax or 75g vmax for ground hogs

Don't forget about the 70gr. and 80gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips! These bullets shoot pretty damn good! A little more expensive than the Hornady's but, worth every penny. I think they will do what you want them to do on ground hogs!

Don't ever exclude the potency of Hodgdon H4350 powder, which is slightly faster burning than H4831, and truly designed for .243 Winchester application with 90 through 100 grain fare. Alliant RL-22 works wonders with 105 grain .243 Winchester calliber. Speer Hot-Cor 105s and RL-22 were a match made in the deer fields of America. 1-in-10" twisters will appreciate such selections. Howa is basically a Weatherby, so my selections work well in both. Forty-six point zero grains of RL-22 backing a 105 grain Speer Hot-Cor are a .243 Winchester's claim-to-fame in the deer fields of America. Spend some time sighting-in to a solid zero at 100 yards, and you'll own the precision shot when it counts. Cliffy
