22/250 1 in 12 twist heaviest bullet weight

hi guys i have a 1 in 12 twist 22/250 and wanted to know if anyone on here has shot the speer 63 grain soft points with this twist ?

my buddy's 12 twist kreiger shoots berger's 64 gr very nicely using vv550 powder. the 63s should do fine, i.e. stabilized. my 14 twist will also shoot this bullet, so a 12 twist might stabilize even a 70 gr? enjoy. [/quote] if i can see you, i can touch you. BANG!

I have a 12 twist 22PPC that I am in the process of working up loads for the 69gr Sierra so far it looks promising. As long as the bore is ok and you have the throat you should be able to shoot bullets up to 70 I would think. Years ago I shot lots of the 63gr SP out of my 14 twist Swift.

I could never get abouve the 55's and get really good accuracy with a factory remmy 1in14,however the 1in12 might just make it with 64 and under. Use flat base bullets in my opinion as the boatails in certain barrels can cause destabilazion and keyholing evident in my cousins rifle.

My Savage Model 16 22-250 with a 12 twist. 100 Yards 3 shots

I ran 64 Berger Varmints with no problem in factory Savage 1/12 barrel. Tried some 70 vlds and the lack of bearing surface and this weight wouldn't stabilize. Depends on the barrel you are using, and velocity, but I see no problem in 22-250 1/12 stabilizing 63 flat base.

Thanks. :)

Not knowing what all the variables are, I can take a swag. Still, I see no variable relating to bullet weight. So why do they have a weight input on their on-line calculator?

Bullet weight is (m) in grains.

T= twist
L = length in inches
v= velocity in ft/sec
s= stability
d=diameter
f= velocity correction factor for temp, altitude, humidity

Thanks, again.

Been playing around with different methods. You can really pull your hair out with this.

Tried Bowman's equation with Howell's SG factor and am getting what I consider reasonable results based on bullet performance in my rifle. However, the Miller equation says the bullet is less than marginally stable with my twist rate.

Guess what it boils down to is that no one has really figured it out and you just have to shoot 'em and see.
