Zero Stop for a scope??

Would someone care to enlighten me about a "Zero Stop" for a scope??

What is it, and what scopes does it work on/for? ???

Tia,
Don

zero stops make it so the scopes elevation turret stops turning when it is brought back to the initial zero.

for example, if my scope is zeroed at 100 yards, but this coming weekend I have a match that's at 600 yards, I'll be adjusting for that zero. when I want to bring my scope back to my original zero, I simply turn the elevation knob until it stops, back at my original 100 yard zero.

basically, they make it so you don't have to count clicks when bringing a scope back to its initial zero.

It is useful for gun games where you turn the knobs a lot, like tactical style precision rifle matches where you have to shoot at several unknown distance targets. A zero stop helps you get back to a known elevation setting and not get lost in the knobs, especially if your knobs only have 5-6 mils a turn and/or you are shooting under time constraints or other stress.

nice to have but not a must. My SIII has hash marks and you can set the turrets to zero. They just won't have the "zero stop". You just line the hash up with "0" and it is on your zero for the yardage you zeroed the rifle at. Same thing can be done with the windage.

Guys,
Thanks for the info on how a/the Zero stop work and what it does etc.

But, what/how is it designed?? What does it LOOK like???

A picture would be worth a 10000 words, is a zero stop designed/built in the scope??

A search does NO good for me. >:(

I have a 1990's Leppy 4x14x50mmx 30mm tube for the new 284 build, and have got lost a couple of times, in the heat of the moment etc.

Tia,
Don

Zero stops are normally a type of collar that can be turned to the bottom of the elevation turret to stop it from going lower. These are very convenient for long range shooters. Pictured is the one used on the March 10X-60X Tactical model. Good shooting....James

Zero Stop is a great feature! I have it on a Nightforce NXS I own. I just wish more companies would offer it as an option! Idaho-45

Vortex sends a set of shims with the scope, once the scope is "zeroed" the required shims are placed under the turret cap to act as a stop.

I've taken the elevation knob off of a Leupold scope, drilled and tapped a hole in the proper area and then installed a self-locking set screw. Set the knob to zero, adjust the set screw until it bottoms out and then back it off a RCH.

Allen wrench is in the set screw hole. If you remove the knob you'll see the O.D. of the turret body that the set screw (4-40) stops against.
