Zero Re-Check Need with New Rest?

Interested in what board posters might do. I recently changed out my bench shooting supports. Went from bags front and rear ( Caldwell Tack Driver and a " squeeze " bag respectively ) to a Sinclair F Class Bipod in front and a Protektor rabbit ear in the rear. I like them both, gives me a steadier sight picture. Would changing out my bench support system in this way warrant a zero check as a matter of course? Thanks.

Without a doubt. Easy enough to check if you are curious. When I was seriously hunting coyotes I always sighted my rifle in off of the bipod, laying in the dirt, just like a hunting situation. It did make a big difference in my results, shot placement wise, as coyotes are a relatively small target at distance.
Good shooting.

But isn't "zero" "zero" ?

If both are solid rests ,you should be able to add 2 or 3 more different methods and they all should be zero.

Or do we now zero on the bounce of the rest?

If it is properly pillar bedded, why would zero change?

While I am not a bench shooter, any time I change something, I always check the sight it. If for nothing else, it will prevent mental uncertainty to creep into your performance. Confidence, at least in my experience, is an essential aspect of precision shooting.

Cont; your groups ultimately may tighten up some, but it shouldn't change your zero.

EX: PRS field shooters , hunters have to shoot using a large variety of rests, they dont have to rezero at every station do they?

Your zero shouldn’t change but if your rest changes it can hurt to checkk, that’s part of the fun anyways, it’s simple and easy to do.

I love my Sinclair bi pod, use it all the time ……

Yes, re-check the zero after the new front rest bag and rear bag have settled in and conformed to the stock. NOTE: Some factory rifles will need a few shots to settle in also.

Your accuracy may not change much when a different rest setup is used but the point of impact very well could. Recheck your zero and make the necessary adjustments.

You should experiment shooting groups from different shooting positions. From a hunting perspective, the kill zone on a large game animal is several inches, if not more than 1'.

In PRS matches you might have to hit a 1 moa target at 600 yards. You don't want to give up any accuracy from different positions. But then, the weapon system is over 20 pounds.
