They punch well above their weight. My original trainer was 223AI and I went down to 221AI for my second rifle. I love shooting the small rifle so much I seldom shoot the 22gt now. I do wish I had another 2-500 lapua brass but getting by.
I predict you will be pleased and impressed with what a simple 223 will do in PRS if loaded correctly. You didnt call out twist rate but if you are in the 8 twist area with 75-80 grain bullets you are going to love it.

My 2237 twist 230 freebore 26-in barrel shoots the 88 ELDM at 2730.

Someone really needs to run the numbers on that and compare it to their 6 BR with a 105 hybrid. You will find there is a very little difference.

I'm definitely looking forward to shooting this rifle. It has a 7 twist barrel, so I should be good for the heavy bullets. I've got 1k 75 ELD-Ms to try. What advantage do those AI alternatives offer? Are they still legal for PRS TAC division?

Not allowed in tac. 100fps or a touch more but more so lets you tune to a node jf needed and not overpressure non stop.
You are going to have fun with this.

I was able to get out to the range today and get the first rounds through this rifle and get the scope dialed in. I have not done any load development yet, I just picked a load and ran it. I'll wait until I get more rounds down the barrel before I do any load development. Even with a random load, it performed well and looks promising. I picked 24 gr of Varget with the Hornady 75 ELD-M, Starline .223 Rem brass and a CCI400 primer. After an old school bore sight, the first shot was just a couple inches left of the center so I sent 4 more to make it a 5 shot group. I was also cleaning in between each of the first 5 shots. I dialed the scope to the right and then shot another 5 shot group. I was shooting modified prone off a bipod on a bench with rear sand bag. The first group was .58 moa and the second group was .48 moa. I couldn't be happier with a random load.

After this, I shot the next 40 rounds at various steel plates at varying distances and also practiced the PRS barricade skill stage. The MDT metal magazines performed flawlessly. I'm usually a 60 second guy for the PRS barricade skill stage (8 shots from 4 positions at a 10 inch round plate at 400 yards). My first run with this rifle was in the 55 second range (8 hits) and the second run was 46 ish seconds (7 hits). I'm very pleased with this rifle and can't wait to keep shooting it and practicing PRS skills and techniques.

Guys with 223 trainers (not 223ai), how far do you stretch those bullets ??

600 yards max ? or 800 yards ?
I'm just curious because it sounds like lots of fun for a portion of the cost of a decent PRS rifle.
I really wish we were allowed Suppressors in Canada. I have a R-700 with a 20" barrel in a LSS chassis. It's only a 9" twist, but shoots 75 gr Horn. BTHP-Match and 77 gr SMK just fine. Shoots the 52 gr BTHP SMK the best with Win-748. But the light 52 gr SMK falls to shit after 300 - 350 meters.

Can I ask why you went bug nut instead of pre fit?

I guess I would ask the opposite question. Why would anyone go with the shoulder when you can just use a nut? You can tune the headspace right where you want it, you can move the barrel on to another action. If you use one of my barrels you can even go to different kinds of actions with the same barrel.

I have no idea why people are stuck into the idea that you need to have a shoulder. After using both the nut has more advantages than it has disadvantages. Despite rumors to the contrary

I totally agree. I like not only being able to control the Head-Space to my liking, but also I figure the barrel Nut gives a little bit more support and rigidity to the barrel going into the receiver.

That might explain why so many Factory barrel nut rifles that cost very little can shoot so good even with a half ass barrel.

I feel confident in myself running a rig like yours to 600 on 2 - 3 moa steel with an accurate load. Though 18" is big for 600.

With my 223rem 20"bbl I would be very happy if I could hit a 16" gong at 600 most of the time.
Dry firing stages is overlooked often. This practicing will definitely up your impact percentages. Also transferring from one position to another knocking time off which in return gives you more time for aiming and executing an accurate shot.
