Zeiss or Leupold?

Got two scopes in my budget.....FX 25x40 or the Conquest 6.5-20x50

For 300-600 benchrest shooting....what would you guys choose??

Thanks

PS.....I realize these scopes are priced quite differntly......however I have the option to buy either at only marginal difference in price.

If you have the option to fondle ;D and look through both that would be the best thing to do to try and make a decision. I have used several of the conquest scopes and really like them alot, so much that i would prefer 1 of them over a VX111 line of scope. You have 2 totally different scopes and if i were going to be using the rifle to double as shooting varmints i would opt for the Zeiss.

xswanted: I have a Zeiss 6.5-20x 50mm, along with many Leupold's & Nightforce(s). Optical clarity & brightness on my Zeiss is outstanding. Side focus works fine. Clicks are positive.

Depending on the size of your targets at 600, 20x and even 25x may not be enough to see your target in detail, especially when mirage is an issue.

To me, a variable has a big advantage over a high magnification fixed power for finding your target downrange. My standard procedure is to crank them down, find the target, line up, then increase to the highest usable power at that time.

Trying to do the same with my Leupold Comp. Series 40x's can sometimes be a problem when your target is one of many at the longer distances, different distances, etc. For that reason I limit the fixed powers to 300 yd/ mtrs. maximum. Nothing but variables beyond that.

If you get the Zeiss, watch the direction of travel on the turrets. They are the exact opposite of Leupolds, Nightforce, Burris, and the vast majority of others. I got caught a few times moving them in the wrong direction. Overall though, a very high quality scope.

xswanted: Sorry I didnt get back to you quicker.....but all the things fdshuster said hold true for me also. Optical clarity; brightness...etc.

Thank you gentlemen...

I'm a little tore up as to which one to get at this point.

But thanks for the input! I appreciate it.

Zeiss. I've owned and used both brands and have not had any issues with either but the quality of the glass in the Zeiss will win me over every time.

Can't say anything bad about Seuss's tech support /repair service but you will not find better then leupold. I bought a 6.5-20x50 used and the wind blew it off the shooting bench onto concrete before I got it mounted. Called them up they said send it to us well replace all the internals and optically zero it free of charge. I had them install a Tactical milling reticle since they had it. Think it took 2 weeks from the day I sent it till I got it back.. iwont buy anything but leupold now.
