In different regions of the USA there is always someone or a gun club that has a unique match.
In Kali. Humboldt county there was the can clobber classic...quart oil jugs filled with water,on their necks in a board at qtr mile. This was originally held the week before Thanksgiving, when weather was wind and rain, and terrain was difficult for wind flags.
Rules ..hunting rifles, mob rule...off the bench ( wood) and you got a spotter to coach/ score. A hit had to draw water crease no score. The best one I witnessed was a shoot off between Allan Bonomini and Bill Nellist. Lt army. of the Alamo scouts.Allan got nine and one crease, Bill got Ten.
Any club can think of a fun shoot, any range, target, but in the spirit of competition it should be something that the average member doesn't feel outclassed. There were those who would bring out a custom gun kick butt, but following year bring something else. Unfortunately an idiot was out on range when closed because of timber cruisers and got range closed for a while.
