Your experience with Sierra .308 HPBT Match Kings in 180gr & 190gr ?

I'm trying to find the most accurate bullet for my 24" DPMS 308 LR rifle. So far, I've found that the 175 Sierra Match Kings are more accurate then the 178 gr Amax or the 168 gr Match King.

Should I believe the 180 and 190's might be even better then the 175's? Seems I hear alot about the 175's being good, but not much mentioned about the 180's or 190's. Don't forget too that I am also limited to how far I can seat the bullet close to the lands before the cartridge doesn't fit in the magazine.

I'd like to hear how these bullets are performing in any rifle, even if you don't shoot the DPMS.,

I have shot the 190s before I cut my barrel down. This was thru a Shillen#7 bbl in a 1/10 twist. I pushed em with IMR4350. They ran pretty well for me, but its a custom gun. And I could seat them however I wanted since it was in a Remmy. I ran em out to 800yds less than MOA. I liked em, but then I ran into 155 Scenars.

Whats your OAL considering that you have to use mags?

Cartridge overall length is limited to 2.806"

I'm sure there is a lot written out there over the years on this websight and others about all the different Sierra weight .308 bullets. The problem is the searches on any websight will not accept "MK", "MKS" ".308MK" "308 Match King" etc. If you enter ".308 match king" for example, searches typically pull up anything with the word "match" in it,,and I don't need to read about every match competition everyone ever attended). Or, if you enter "king" you get every search with any caliber Sierra bullet ever made, etc. ".308" or "308MKS" pulls up nothing.

Yea willdo. I'll drop the idea of buying 180's....I'm hearing this elswhere too that they aren't so great. Think I'll also drop the idea of 190's too....and just stick to improving loads with my 175smk's. Seems like most guys prefer that weight bullet if they're going to use a Sierra.

powderburnz's comment about the scenar 155's is the second person to recommend them. I didn't think I should consider such a light bullet. I was tempted to try the 167 scenar's. Now I think I'll go with one scener or the other.

You may waant to try the new sierra 155 Palma match king, they have a BC almost the same as the 175's, you can get above 3000fps with R-17 and the LOA can be shorter than the 175's. As for how good they shoot, the are used by the Palma team and shoot real good at a 1000 yds.
