My group has hunted central Idaho from the late '80s when we could limit out in 2 days. It has been getting progressively worse since the wolves were released at Sabe Saddle in 1995. Since the senseless federal introduction of the wolf we have seen the elk herd go from huntable to virtually no elk anywhere. Mule deer are gone and there a few whitetail but most of the deer are gone too. With over 40 bulls and bunches of cows to my credit I hunted this area this fall for the last time. In 14 days of hard scouting and hunting, I never saw a single elk and I only saw one elk track. Next year, we old guys will have to find a new area where the wolves have not taken over yet and see if we can come up with a reasonable hunt. The wolves have added nothing but have made the elk in these huge areas of Idaho statistically extinct.

@ Logan,.. YUP,.. it's very SAD ! No thought, went into introducing the CANADIAN TUNDRA Wolves, into Idaho ! They ARE a completely different Species of Wolf than we ALREADY,.. HAD !!! I went to Arizona to Hunt Elk recently ( tons of Elk, there ) I apply for Utah limited entry Tags and Bow Hunt the "fringes" of Idaho for Elk, where very few Wolves, currently exist. The Wolves have moved into Oregon, now,.. TROUBLE, IS coming, for them, too as,.. it's illegal to shoot them, there !
God help us Hunters, who depend on Elk to feed our Families, with GOOD, WHOLESOME,.. Meat !

The Federal Govn'mt HAS, Paid Govmt "Hunters" in Helicopters, to "try" to keep the Wolf Packs, in "check",.. LOL !
YOU and ME, Bro,.. are PAYING TAXES, for these Guys to Hunt them @ $85,000- $100,000 per Year, EACH Hunter,.. Plus the Pilot, Fuel and Helicopter !

The Wolves are within 20 Miles of, Boise, now with, LOTS of them, around,.. Idaho City, Landmark, Yellow Pine, Elk city, the Moscow area, basically all of Central Idaho to, the Wyoming border and NOW,..our Moose are, in trouble !
Good, long range Rifles with explosive Bullets like, the Nosler Ballistic Tips, Hornady V-Maxes, Berger HP's, etc. Use your Deer/ Elk Rifles like,.. .243 Win, 25-06, .260, 270's, .264 mags, etc. shots can be from 100 to 700 yards and PLENTY of Wolves to "go around" Guys, limit 3 Wolves, I think ( LOL). These ARE,.. the larger, Canadian Tundra, Wolves capable of downing, Buffalo !!! Leave your TINY,.. "pop guns" Home,.. ENJOY !
