Young Lady shooter, first groups

My daughter invited a friend to learn to shoot. I took them to the range today. After some time on a 513T learning trigger, breathing, rest, sight picture, aiming small, getting cheek weld, feeling comfortable etc, we moved her right out to 100 yards. She shot these two groups with a 40XBR clone in 222, with IMR 4198 and 50 grain TNT's. The bottom group lowest right shot was round #1 wet barrel. Second group on top had vertical likely caused by her bag and rest skills, but I would say she was shooting near within the accuracy potential of the rifle with that load. These are both 5 shot groups. Not bad for first day behind a real rifle, eh? The target is a IDPA paster

Her smile was like sunshine. :)

OOPs, I mean the top group, lowest right bullet was the wet barrel shot...then she shot the lower target.

Cool of your girl inviting her friend to shoot & good 1st time shooting on her part.
Ive been taking my pals grand daughter out to the range also.
Like you started I had her start right off at 100 yds then moved to 400 yards and she was banging steel consistently w/my 6x45.
She then asked if I thought she was ready to go hunting w/me when wrapping it up....that was great.
Now if her parents would only get her signed up for hunters ED & take her.

That's great, on every level. There's no greater feeling than introducing a youngster to shooting and having them really like it.

Outstanding. It's awesome introducing a junior to safe, enjoyable, accurate shooting. She's probably hooked for life now, good for you :)

She will look back and say THANKYOU. I will say it now.. THAHKYOU.. Tommy Mc..

You didn't mention ages; what age are we talking about? Those are decent groups and should keep them interested in the sport. This also means you will be relegated to the position of loader/cleaner. I've been through it with those damned teenagers........I love it.
My best match ever was one where my grand son and grand daughter used my rifles and finished one-two in a score match. I should have won for best loader. Actually, I did.

I love to train new young shooters. The smile on a youngsters face is immeasurable. It give you that warm and fuzzy feeling like nothing else. Good for you snert.

A lot better than some of my 1st ones! It's great that you introduced a new shooter to the sport because that's the only chance we have of saving the 2nd amendment. When all of us old dudes die off it will be shreaded worse than it is now if there is no one to take our place.

Love posts like this! Always great to see a new shooter come into the fold with a positive experience...

On a parallel, the other week, had some friends stop up to plink a bit. One bud's GF had never shot a rifle, so that's why they stopped over ;) Anyhoo, after a little coaching on fundamentals + the ever important basic safety stuff, she was ringing steel with the 6x45 every shot. Never missed, actually!
Happened to have the big Norma out too, and it didn't take much prodding for her to test drive it! 1st shot, she center punched the 650yd plate like it was nuthin' :)

Amazing what you can do with someone who doesn't hafta break any 'bad habits' before learning the good ones. Proper NPA, relaxed position straight behind the rifle, rear bag support, trigger control, etc... girls make great shooters!!!

Paige is more than welcome to ring steel next time up, bet she'll make it look just as easy!!!

My daughter is 14, her friend is 17.

I taught firearms for 17 years. When it comes to recreational shooting, precision rifles etc, I prefer teaching girls. No ego, willing to listen, follow instructions, show enthusiasm, don't brag.

I am sure she will keep shooting.

Congratulations to her .
Special thanks to you.
Every one of my grandkids I have done the same . They along with my kids they all shoot and hunt . My youngest granddaughter for her 18 birthday wanted and or a shotgun a 308 . Now she has both . Keep up the good work. Larry

Same thing I experienced in many years of doing NRA safety/marksmanship classes and working with the 4-H shooting sports program.

Always got a kick out of the young ladies handing it to the boys by shooting circles around them. Seems that something was always wrong with the guns and sights when the boys shot them but the problem was miraculously cured when the gals shot the same guns! Better yet was the wife outshooting the husband in the NRA classes.

Far easier to teach a new shooter proper techniques and range etiquette than a you tube "Master"

Oh my gosh, THAT brought back the constant chatter of the line when I was an LEO instructor!!! (However, sadly, in THAT case, the girls were worse...maybe had something to do with the job, I dunno)

Fredo..I gotta hand it to that lady. When I saw that rifle of yours I was scared!

+1 on teaching girls and women to shoot, lol! In many years teaching basic pistol marksmanship, I never caused any relationship breakups or divorces, but a lot of the time, within a few weeks of finishing the course (we had the range one night a week), many of the men quit coming nearly as often while their significant others, who were out-shooting the males, kept coming every week.
