You'd better be good, or have disposable income - $25,000 Match Entry Fee.

MikeMcCasland

Team Texas F-T/R
I'm not involved in PRS at all, but I came across this match taking place in 2021.

$25,000 buy in, winner takes home $500,000.

I know there are some amazingly talented folks on here, and some guys with the financial means.

Anyone of yall taking part?

This competition will last 23 days and be conducted over a broad section of the United States.

This competition will start at Rifles Only in Texas on September 1st, 2021. Once the tasks are completed at this location, the next location will be given to the competitor in written form. This format will continue until the entire competition is completed.

The competitor will be responsible for all costs associated with travel, meals and any other associated costs.

At this time, there are 7 locations in the Western U.S. that will be utilized. You will see New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, and Oklahoma.

Once deposits are received, you will be given addresses to pre-position ammunition and other associated gear. 3 months prior to competition start date you’ll receive an email with further instruction on dates and locations to make your travel arrangements.

There will be competitions inside this competition. You will be responsible for those entry fees.

The entry fee for this competition will be $25,000. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. A cash payback will award the winner $500,000. This is a winner take all event. Only 45 people will participate. The half million-dollar award certainly makes this worth it."

With $1,125,000 of entry fee's (besides the inner competition fee's) going to be a huge MONEY MAKER for some, at the expense of 44 of the 45 entries. But at least 1 of the 45 (the winner only) will get 44% of the take in, leaving 56% ($625,000) for host expenses and profits.

You are not going to get the "best" shooters at this thing. Are corporate-sponsored shooters allowed to play? I think it would be better if they were not......Better to have some "skin in the game" I would think.........I see nothing more than a big dollar casino table............Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Rick

It will be interesting to see if this actually comes to fruition. The initial cost is only part of the problem. Cost involving your time, travel, and shipping costs for 7 locations starts to add up.
I wish them luck.

From what I read from members of this forum, many have a huge discretionary income. They are privileged enough to buy, travel and participate all over the world in very expensive shooting activities. Most of us could not dream of what so many here call reality.

This particular activity may not go off but surely there are many here willing and able to spend more money than most of us may gross in a year to participate. Now whether it is a smart decision to do so brings up more to think about.

^ ... this was obviously planned quite some time prior to now. I’d say whoever had figured out a way to get good news in their monthly account statement is on a roll and might have a chance at describing this event successfully to a spouse.

Reminds me of a Calcutta in a big game fishing tournament. It was actually a lot of fun. It did help that the entry fee was per boat and we could pool the crew's money.

They also stated no refunds. There better be a clause that refunds your money if it doesn't happen.

I would assume that they will have a substantial staff to work this competition. Say there is one person per competitor that you have to pay, transport, feed and put up in hotels for a month away from their regular work. If you take the receipts less the prize you have $625k. Assume 30% of the $625k is for range fees, permits, advertising, targets, etc that leaves $437.5k. Assume a 10% profit for the promoters that leaves $393.8k. If you divide that among the 45 workers that provides them with $8.7k each to cover their expenses and pay for a month.

You can move the percentages and assumptions around any where you want. I don't see anyone getting rich off this. Sill, a pretty cool competition. Out of my reach but cool none the less.

I would tend to respectfully disagree with this. I am sponsored and know of others whom are sponsored well above where I sit and I dont think you are going to see many sponsors dropping $25k on a match unless they are sending their own employees or themselves. Typical sponsorship that I am aware of and involved in still net the company either a small profit or they will give you equipment/supplies at cost. I do know there are some that will get items for free but I personally have never seen nor heard of anyone at this level personally.
Just my experience... but I also reserve the right to be wrong. lol

Thanks for chiming in. Congrats on earning through your shooting skills an avenue to defer some of the many costs incurred playing the game.....Hope all of our ranges don't catch this virus and the season will happen for all of us.......Happy Shooting

Best Regards
Rick

I shot several trap matches with an entry fee of 35.00. 1100 shooters plus calcutta bumped the pot up over 40,000 for a 100 bird Sunday afternoon. Chicken feed compared to
this proposal but real time head to head. I did come in fourth once with a 96... Thought I was in for some real money so did the other 35-40 shooters I tied. Cleared 300$.
Was disappointed...In retrospect I was happy and wish I was able to do it now. Match was Southern Grand held in Odessa, North of Tampa, Fl.

Shoot while you can. The Devil take the hindmost.

I think this could be good for all of us. I don't shoot prs and could not afford this even if i did and had a chance to win. Professional bass fishing went to something like this years ago with $55,000 entry fees for the season in the bassmaster elite series. This could elevate the sport to where some people will eventually make a good living as pro shooters. It also could get more publicity and get more people into the shooting sports. If this goes well we could be watching shooting competitions on tv one day and have shooting get back to being mainstream again and not looked at like something bad the way it is nowadays in the general public.
