You Guys Reading the Daily Bulletin??

Forum Boss

Administrator
In chatting with some semi-frequent visitors to this website, I was surprised to find they were not aware of the Daily Bulletin.

Since I put quite a lot of time into this feature,2-3 hours a day, 7 days a week), I want to make sure we're reaching the audience.

Question 1: Have you guys checked out the Bulletin yet? There's a bright red button at the top of the page, and here's the link:

http://www.6mmBR.com/bulletin.html

Question 2: How can we do a better job letting people know about this feature? It is right at the top of the home page, and further down there is a window that shows the latest entries...

Question 3: Have people figured out that one can click on categories for Bulletin items, or search by keyword? Here are the results for "Bullets, Brass, & Ammo":

1) yep, I love it. I was even pictured in the NorCal match feature:D

2) not sure. I'm not the brightest bulb around here though.

3) ??? what was the question again? OK....I got it now.
NO...that's cool.....see #2

Gee, it's right there. However you remember the old saying "Can't see the forest for the trees", or "if you want to hide something, hide it in plain sight". Perhaps this is what's happening.

1. I check and read all new items as frequently as possible - usually daily.

2. I asked some of the others at the club that are frequent visitors to the site. Two of them pointed out an oddity I had not noted myself. They check the bulletin banner at the top for new items but report that it sometimes doesn't change for a day or two but when it does they find 2 or three items they had missed. Maybe keeping the banner synchronized to the bulletin would help. Also consider using the banner with the item tease on the forum pages for those that link direct to the forums.

3. All I talked to use the search feature. We are all old enough that we usually can't remember the item titles so the subject search is our favorite.

By the way, do you ever get to sleep or shoot anymore? Thanks for all the great work Paul.

I read it every day. Don't know how you could make it more visible. I've learned from it. Thank you for your work.

No, I only have time to read the new posts. I know it's there and how to access it though.

This is the best shooting website. My personal thanks to the Moderator, his staff of contributors, and all the posters with there great questions, replies and personal views.

Paul:

The Daily Bulletin is a nice addition to your web site. I know you spend a lot of your valuable time putting it together. Would it be a helpful if you had more contributors submit items and articles for the Daily Bulletin?

Thanks your your great web site.

1) I look for the update EVERY morning...Good stuff!

2) May be old school but one way to maybe reach audience is to put it into an HTML frame on main page. Also have option top turn it off should people not want to see frames.

3) Keyword search is good thing...Didn't realize this feature was there. However, I like reading all of it.

I check for new items in the bulletin every time I log on to this site. It's a great feature, I've grown so used to it that checking it out has become second nature to me.

Perhaps a flashing banner would make it more noticable to those who haven't yet seen it ;)

Paul, thank you very much for the effort that you've put in to this site. It's really appreciated. Definitely the best site on the net!

Paul:

The Daily Bulletin is the first item I check when I log on. Very up to date with interesting information on shooting, products and sales.

Keep up the great work on the very best shooting board around!

It is also the first thing I check out when I log on every day. I like it and it is informative. Keep up the good work Paul, all of us shooters appreciate your hard work very much.

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. This is very helpful.

Would it be a helpful if you had more contributors submit items and articles for the Daily Bulletin?

Yes, absolutely! Many folks may not realize that a simple one paragraph, 2-photo news item may involve 2-3 phone calls, a couple emails to secure photo permissions. Just yesterday I was on the phone for half an hour with Allie Euber. We talked bullet design--and you'd be amazed at the velocities he's running with his new 6mm-6.5x47 Lapua with light bullets. Wow.

One way to maybe reach audience is to put it into an HTML frame on main page. Also have option top turn it off

Good suggestion. We do have the bulletin set up in an I-frame on the home page. The Bulletin works best if you view it on a separate page of course, but this allows you to quickly scan the day's items from the home page.

Perhaps a flashing banner would make it more noticable to those who haven't yet seen it.

I may try that. I did, briefly, experiment with a "tickertape" scrolling Marquee at the top of the page. I thought that looked kind of cheesy, but a blinking button might work.

I check the bulletin at least once per day - usually twice.

This website just keeps getting better and better. Thanks to all involved!!!!!
