That's a Darrel Holland set up isn't it? I remember reading about rifles set up like that in Varmint Hunter magazine. I think it was a one screw take down arrangement.

Saw a Remington 700 @ Robert Gradous' shop four or five years ago like that. Was in a Holland stock and Robert said it was experiment from several years earlier.

Darrel did quite a few rifles with that setup in the '90s. They used his proprietary V-block stock and used both single and double take down bolts. Essentially, the action floats with no stock contact.

That XP action looks like it was possibly hard chromed...you sure it's stainless?

I shot a couple of these he had built and they shot well. For a true walking varmint gun, they do end up pretty heavy, though.

yea its not to bright. of stainless so id say u r probably right about that and the stock does have that block in it and its the only screw that holds it in the stock it is pretty heavy for sure i was trying to get some info on it before i put it up for sale or trade

For what it's worth, that's a '68 vintage action...which is neither here nor there one way or another. The extractor style is something else to be aware of.
