XP-100 muzzle brake?

I recently acquired an XP-100 in 7mm BR. It has an incredibly ugly rear grip stock and has the thin tapered barrel (approximately .570 at the muzzle). A Burris 2.5x7 LER scope came with the gun, but I really feel I need more scope to wring the best performance out of it.

I shot it with a 16X rifle scope off the bench at the range, but I was tempting fate - if I try that in the field I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up regretting it.

I know some shooters use rifle scopes on XPs, but most have muzzle brakes installed for larger calibers. While the 7mm BR isn't an especially hard recoiling round I think I need a muzzle brake to safely use a rifle scope on the gun.

I've just started researching brakes for the gun, but two questions. One, is a clamp on brake a viable option for this gun? Two, if not, is it possible to install a thread on brake - doesn't seem like there's much barrel to thread?

Appreciate any input.

I would call Witt Machine and give them the dimensions of your barrel at the points that they ask for and see if they have one that will work. I have one of them on my Thompson Center and though there have been negative comments posted about them, I and a number of my friends all got them, installed them as per the directions and are happy with them.

I use the JP brake. I have one on a 6 TCU & 6.8 SPC. I compete in IHMSA Silhouette & use rifle scopes on both guns. The JP brake is by far the most popular brake in IHMSA.

Its a slippery slope, next thing you know you will rebarrel it into a 6 dasher and be shooting 1k and when thats not enough a 7-300 win or a 7 dakota and be banging steel at 2k.

That's kind of what I'm afraid of - I have a tendency to become slightly obsessed at times!

Threading the factory barrel will cause the steel to open up at the muzzle which could ruin the accuracy of the barrel. You could go to a Burris 4X12 power variable pistol scope and get a bit better resolution at long range. While the 7MM BR Remington is a very accurate round , I would rate the factory XP as minute of pie plate at 500 meters. I'd rebarrel if you want a brake and restock with something you would like. It seems if I didn't like something about a firearm I never shot well with it, hmmm:rolleyes:. MHO.
