XBR 8208 in the .308?

Curently I'm loading Varget with 150gr Amax bullets.

Is anyone using XBR 8208 with this combination?

155 A-Max Tula LR, Lapua (standard) brass Start @ 42 grs work up (I'm @ 45 ish) at the lands (0). Same except a little more powder with 155.5 Berger fullbores. WORK UP TO YOUR SAFE LOADS. ES of 4 or less. These are all single loaded (exceeds mag length)

I have some 125 gr Speer TNT's loaded with 46 gr of 8208. I have not tried them yet because of the holidays but would also be very interested in anyone's experience with this powder and bullet combination (the OP's) as well as I have some Amax's on order.

Have not tried it with 150-155 gr. but have a load with 168 gr. that shoots extremely well @ 300 yds.
41.3 gr. 8208xbr
Russian Primer
Lapua case

Best @ 300 so far was .796"
Do not know the speed. With accuracy this good, who cares!

Forgot to add. This rifle is a Rem. 700 ADL Varmint Barrel off the shelf at Cabelas for $449.00
Contrary to what I have heard about quality from Rem. factory rifles. I think this rifle proves the point. At least to me it does. I have since changed out the stock to a HS Precision and replaced the trigger with a Jewell.

Shooting 2 different Savage 10FP in .308. Used XBR with 155 Palmas and 168 Amax and tried out a few other combos with RL-15, Varget, IMR 4320, etc. with 155,168,178,180 gr. from a variety of makes, A-max, Berger, Lapua, Nosler, Sierra.

8208 produced the second best groups in one rifle and the best groups for the other with the short range 100/200 meters. It seems a bit faster than RL-15 that I now use with both rifles. I'm getting a consistent .8~.9" groups at 100m with 8028 and the lighter 155s. It also produces some high velocities. I am just able to get better groups with the RL-15 so I prefer it as my first choice. 8028 is my second choice if I'm shooting 155s.

You will have to play around to see what yours perfers. It took an entire two days trying out 10 rounds each of various loads before I found out what worked best. Note, one rifle does best with RL-15 and the other seems to be happy with several powders but does nicely with the 8028.

Everyone I talked to said Varget Varget, but I couldn't get Varget to play nice and have several lbs sitting on the shelf right now.

Pressure signs show up fast with XBR for me. Lapua brass and CCI primers. With my first 10FP, the best groups were obtained with RL-15 with 168 gr. It produced some outrageous groups and seems to be the most consistent. It all depends and noticed that things change a little after a few hundred have been run through so your first pick may change with time.

Keep good records of what ever you are using; it will come in handy later.
