There was a thread a while back on the worth of X-Caliber barrels, a new barrel maker in Kalispell.
I had purchased one of their 6mm, 1 in 8 barrels off EBAY and had it chambered in 6BRX as a replacement for my used-up Bartlein.
Well I did have good things to say about it, I do use a tuner on it and had shot some decent groups and won some ribbons in club long range bench rest matches.
Well, I have had a bad patch since last March and have been hammered by typical Sacramento summer winds and my poor to none abilities at mirage reading. I had become almost depressed!
During deer season and a trip to Hawaii, I hadn't been shooting for a month. I decided to start doing all the right things again in reloading. I had taken some short cuts. So, I started using my Annie after each firing, cleaning cases, body sizing as well as neck sizing and grading cartridges by seating force.
Went shooting last week at 1000 yds during the Monday LR practice. After 4 sighters, I shot the best 5 shot group I have shot in 2 years, and only 1/2 inch bigger than my all time best 1000 yd group 2 years ago. For verification, I shot my 7mm Bartlein barreled heavy gun yesterday at 600 yds and shot some good groups while doing a crude tune of my tuner-brake.
So, I am here to say my X-Caliber 6BRX barrel with 575 shots down the tube is as good as any barrel I have used to date!
And, yes, I think the 6BRX/6 Dasher is a suitable tool for 1000 yd BR! Mine shoots better than my 284 WIN with only slightly more wind effects.
