I worked in Cedar Rapids (Iowa) last year after the 140 MPH winds, pretty devastating for sure. Crops and buildings with a lot of damage but some great people!

My personal Thanks go out to Bob for starting this post. I know if he lived nearby, he would be with the rest of us out there volunteering to make our range a better place to shoot again. I am not our club spokesman, heck, I'm not even a board member, but I contribute where I can and try to be involved when I can. So that being said, these are just my views. I don't know Paula Marie Hamilton, pretty sure she doesn't know me, but I would like to Thank her nonetheless for the ideas, the awesome post and good will toward our club. She reinforces my thoughts as to how great this forum is. I'm sure our club would truly appreciate any outright donations and make the best of it toward our rebuild. I struggle with thoughts that there are a lot of communal and personal tragedies that we read about every day out there (and here) and hopefully we get to help those in need when we can. I confess that I would feel a little guilty asking for donations outright (gofund me page type of thing). After all, we are just a gun club that had a building blown down by heavy winds. Nobody got sick, nobody died, nobody lost a home. So I would ask that you not forget those in need during difficult times. Now, on the other hand, (because that was starting to get sad) our range is important to us. The shooting sports are important to us. From Hunter safety to the variety of matches and events that we put on. We shoot year round. And it was a great loss when that building went down. And when Maven stepped up, wanting to donate their optics to create a raffle, well now, if someone chooses to donate to the cause, they have a chance at getting something back. And Maven optics are something pretty cool. You can check out their story on their website or click on the raffle link. I think they share our ideals towards the outdoors and the shooting sports and makes for a worthy cause.

So, what started out as Thank You note to Bob and Paula Marie now seems like a long winded shameless plug towards a raffle. Not what I intended and probably why I do more reading than posting here. Hopefully someone you know will get a nice pair of bino's or a Scope - along with Bob.

The pass east of Walcott i always have called it Fed-Ex hill. Cause there's usually a FedEx truck on its side there.

I wonder what the total insurance bill is every year between Walcott, and elk mountain exits?

Actually the worst part is like a 20 mile stretch around Arlington. If you can get past that you're usually golden.
Last week the wind was horrific .. 80 closed a couple of times.. The wife had to get to Denver as her sister was on her deathbed. She go turned around on 80 and ended up going back to Rawlins and then up to Casper to come down I25. Going back a few days later she made it to Laramie and the road closed.. So she spent the night.

Night before last, the wind was so ferocious that I didn’t get a wink of sleep. House was shaking and the noise was crazy. The next morning there were roof shingles on my front yard. Wyoming wind is not for the feint of heart. During the winter season we commonly get steady 40 MPH with gusts of 80+ but a couple years ago we had a gust of 121 MPH. That’s major pucker factor.

There are times I don’t miss my home state. My dad was a project engineer with the Laramie office of the Highway Department. In the winter, before digital signs, he had to travel U.S. 30 and I-80 to assign plow priorities, change speed limit signs and ultimately, to determine when to close the roads. My mom had a radio scanner where she could listen for him to check in with the dispatcher. That way, she knew he was OK.

Your end of the state has been getting horrendous wind this year. Elk Mtn has been closed more than open it seems. A few weeks ago the wife had to go to Denver for a family emergency. She got turned around on Elk Mtn and had to return to Rawlins, then went to Casper and down 25. She said the wind from Douglas to Cheyenne was horrible to drive inn.

That stretch of interstate seems to be the worst. I refuse to drive it during windy conditions.

I am making a powder run to Glenrock tomorrow. I-25 all the way. About 500 miles round trip. Taking my beater 07 Camry, cracked windshield, paint beyond giving a crap. 4 cylinder will still get me 32 mpg in the expected 40 mph NW winds heading north. Might do better than 42 mpg heading home.

Bob, thanks for updating for us, here in Lander. And thanks to all that participated, you are truly appreciated. We have been blessed from many directions. It's been a pretty mild winter so far, although cold. So in hindsight, it would be nice to be further ahead on the project, but I'm sure we'll get dumped upon at some point and be glad we weren't caught in the middle of production and have to halt for a lengthier time. We'll get after it pretty quick when warmer weather arrives. Bob, you might want to put some cement blocks in the trunk for your trip - or at the very least load up with as much Powder and bullets as you can find for the ride home.
