Wyoming guide reccomendation/help

Hoping someone might be able to suggest someone or somewhere to contact about a trip myself and another fella want to take out to Wyoming next year.

We're from the east cost, Virginia, and this would be our first hunting trip out west and truth be told, first hunting trip outside the state. We've looked at and talked about a lot of different places and game and finally settled on Wyoming. We're hoping to spend a week or so out there next Sept (2015) and would like to go after antelope, greater sage grouse and time permitting rock chucks. May end up being too much but we would really like to get the first 2 in.

Started looking at guide services and really kinda overwhelmed by the number of them out there and was wondering if anyone had some good recommendations. We're going to be relying on them pretty heavily for just everything associated with the tags and where to put in for and the process of drawing them and possibly a back up area if that's even permissible. I saw a lot of really nice accommodations and such on some of the outfitters sites but to be honest, we're there to hunt. We could both appreciate a nice lodge but we don't need any fancy dinners or spas or such, heck both of us would be fine sleeping in a storage container, the hunt and being out there in that environment is our main reason for going.

I know it's probably early for next years hunt but we just want to make sure we get everything squared away in time. If anyone knows a good guy or group to get with out there, I'd definitely appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks

I am not sure if he is still guiding but Tim and Cindy are top drawer.. Give em a call and see..

I've been hunting Wy for 30 years. Mostly for muley's, but some speedgoats. Always camping while hunting public land. Muley populations are way down with white tails taking over. Buck speedgoat tags are tough to get as a non resident. If they give outfitter tags, then look for one that can get you the tag. Otherwise as mentioned earlier, you'll need to build preference points.

There are no outfitter tags in Wyoming.

I've hunted WY antelope two different years. Got leftover tags both years - and got a buck antelope each year. But it has been over 7 years ago, so maybe things have changed.

Do you have any preference points for antelope? If so how many?

I don't have any points, I tried to read about it on the WY game site but it made little to no sense to me. Might have to look at other states if there are too many hoops to jump through there.

I purchased a tag for 2014 in Unit 25. I did have to get on the site right at 0800 mountain time, but did purchase with no issues. As far as a guide, I have no recommendation. I did a DIY with a SD resident that is quite experienced.
We had six hunters from PA, all six killed bucks on the opening day with most of them tagged before 1030.

You can find guides/outfitters that operate in hunting units that have left over tags. They usually are in units that are mostly private land. They will help you get the left over tags when you book a hunt with them. Look in the outfitter's association yearly booklet. We just came back from hunting antelope but we had 3-4 points. My one buddy shot his at 727 yds, it was faceing him, one shot kill. The game warden came to him and congradulated him on the shot and helped drag it to his truck.

You can find good information on guides in various locations for antelope. Around this area ( Buffalo) there are plenty of decent guides, with more then enough antelope. The outfitters here have access to some really good ranches and tag availability is not an issue. Rifle prong horn season usually starts October 1st, and the very limited Sage grouse season is usually Sept. 20-30th. The rock chucks tend to be more active May , June, and july in the mountains and are not near as plentiful on the prairie. where the grouse and goats are. I have have noticed this year with the bipolar weather that there are way more then a few Prairie dogs out and about yet!!!!!!!
Hope this helps.
