WY antelope

Just returned from Buffalo area. Our group went 3 for 4 over 4 days. All bucks. Really tough hunts with lots of hiking, as it seems to be impossible to get permission on private land in that area, and state land is barren wasteland. We were able to find some green fields up against state, hike way in, and wait for them to move into the death zone. Shot this one at 260 yds after he crossed into state. 6.5 creedmoor handload with 143 ELDX.
Quartered and hiked it out 3 miles. Not a monster, but happy considering the challenge.

I’m not one to measure deer back home, but since this was my first antelope, I wanted to study up a bit on how to judge them. In any case, they are very difficult to judge in the field, and after three days of not seeing anything on state land, I was ready for meat. I did quickly measure overall length near 13”, bases have 6” circumference, so I guess it’s respectable for sure. It was a great first antelope hunt.

Congrats! My boy and I were just northeast of you in Montana 2 weeks ago. We glassed several and decided on this guy. It was my first antelope hunt also. He isn’t huge but since I’d never killed one he is the biggest I’d ever taken. You are correct they are extremely hard to judge in the field even with good glass. An extremely fun and laid back hunt. To my surprise they are delicious as well. Much better than Missouri venison in my opinion. 25-06AI, 133gr Berger EH, 447yds.
