WV Ghogs vs 22BR

With the season slowly winding down,I wanted to get the new rifle out to see how it does.

Saw 12 ghogs today. got 8 of them. Kill shots were anywhere from 60yds. to 338yds. Missed one at 468yds. Still trying to figure out the bullet drop on the rifle.

A few pics.

I think this rifle will work just fine!!

Two of your groundhogs are quite large...nice job on the your successful hunt. Your fluted barrel looks really sharp on the 40X.

Good shooting.tell us about the gun and especially the stock.

Gun is a Remington 40X action with a Bartlein 1-12 twist barrel. Has a Jewell trigger set at 5oz. The stock is an original 40X stock with barrel tuners and the accessory rail in the forearm. I bought it off a member here.

i'm happy if i get 3 per outing...envy you! i shoot a 12 and a 14 twist 22 BR and love them both. what bullet in your 12 twist? mine loves a 60, 63, and 64 gr bullet. hornady has a ballistic calculator that has been extremely accurate for me and my buddy. my longest is 532 yds with a 6x284, 105 vld and my buddy ventilated a ghog at 636 yds with his 6x47 lapua. just enter the required data and the calculator prints out the min of elevation required if you start with a 100 yd zero. CAUTION...your gun's sight height must be measured correctly or you'll miss the long shots.

Right now I'm shooting the 50gr. Vmax using Benchmark powder. I just bought 4,000 55gr. Vamx bullets so I will be switching to those next spring. I will look at the Hornady ballistic calculator,I think that will help improve my shot/kill ratio.

My current longest kill is 576yds. with my 223AI.I have a custom 6SLR I'm hoping to use for the really long shots.Just gotta find a field long enough so I can set my bench up.

I have taken 23 hogs in 4 days from the farm where I got these 8. It is a honey hole. ;D

My total for the year stands at 143 ghogs killed.
