Would like to buy a 22 smoothbore. Anyone have one they would like to sell I would be interested. Thanks

The Marlin Model 25MG was a bolt action smooth bore in .22magnum. was sold as the "Garden Gun" and was manufactured from 1999-2002.

Remington made both the 510 and 514 Routledge (smoothbore) version for 22LR shot. 510 production ended in 1962 and 514 production ended in 1969.

Winchester made some 67's in smoothbore and Mossberg had a smooth bore that had a target thrower attached to the stock for small diameter clays, believe this sold as a "Moskeet" outfit. There were most likely others but these are the ones I could remember.

Last I heard, Remington still does limited runs of their pump (model 572?) in smoothbore. It's not a cataloged item though.

Rats, snakes and other vermin are the intended quarry. But the ultimate in fun is a smoothbore 22 loaded with ratshot, walking through fields and jump-shooting....get ready for it....grasshoppers!

Have you thought about a Winchester 1885 Winder Musket? It would be perfect for vermin and look impressive in the field.

What is the purpose of a smooth bore? Just never could understand the feasibility.
Many years ago we used to shoot Rats at night with 22's . We tied up our pant legs ( probably not necessary ) to protect our jewels as there would be tons of Rats running all over the place . Even the sound of shooting did'nt seem to deter them . One night I decided to try 22 Shot in my rifled barreled 22 . The Rats just jumped a little and ran off . I quickly switched back to Hollow Points . Some time later , a Dealer friend of mine got in a Winchester Model 61 Pump Smooth Bore .... ( I could have bought it for $150 but did'nt know what it was at the time , and neither did he..... but that's another story ) . Anyway , we decided to Test a regular rifled barrel 22 against the Smooth Bore at maybe 15 or 20 feet .....both with 22 Shot Ammo . We set up Ann Page " pie tins " ( remember the A&P ) and fired away . The rifled 22 barely made a dent , but the smooth bore shot right through the pans . Yep , I sure wish I had picked up that Model 61 !

grasshopper skeet...now THAT is an idea I never thought of, but wish I had! I would love that! :D

I have a Remington 121 with the Routledge bore and front bead sight. I have not shot it in quite a while but it is neat little rifle/shotgun which ever you would call it. I have used it to jump shoot grasshoppers which is loads of fun as is shooting bumble bees flying around my old barns. These bumble bees are the ones that drill holes in the wood and are usually out by the 100's on a hot day. I have a good friend that has a smooth bore as well that comes over to help me with the bumble bees. We get on opposite sides of the barn and "let the games begin". It's like a miniature dove shoot!

Fun times!

Well finally found a smoothbore a Remington 572. Used it on the sparrows that were dirting up my machinery in my shed. Worked very good. Really impressed with the pattern it has. A really good gun for this type of hunting.

I have a friend that used his single six in college dorm gun fights with his classmates. They would pull the bullets and dump the powder then insert a birthday cake candle cut to the length of the shell and seal with some candle wax. The candle was propelled by the primer only but he said a winter jacket and safety glasses were required.
