I was thinking about building a WSSM project and was wondering if anybody has tried it yet?? I wanted to do one in a 6.5,7mm or 30cal.If anybody has have you encountered any problems ?? Thanks

I have not built a WSSM but I have built a WSM rifle and because the brass of the WSSM and WSM cartridges are short and fat sometimes they have problems feeding from a mag. If you are building a single shot than you will be ok.

I am working with a 6.5/25wssm.
I just worked up a load for the 123 scenars and am now trying the 130 vlds

I've tried and done the 6.5-.25wssm case and had good results, but in my opinion its quite alot of work. The brass is the biggest issue, thick necks weight variances and annealing needed to keep proper neck tension. I have a fresh Bartlein that is looking very good so I will continue to play with it. I built a 30WSSM and it never was a benchrest quality round, tried two barrels and had case problems, brass quality was poor, neck turned and ect. ect. other shooters in the club had same problems,,,new cases would shoot fine one time and reloaded rounds were poor ..tried 6 powders. I ended up parting out the rifle to a fellow who built hunting rifles, would never waste money again on the WSSM projects.

All is fine as long as you plan,up front) to turn the necks for a tight chamber.
There is nothing wrong with the brass..
In fact, it's as good as any. Just very, very thick.

Why would ANYONE think necks left so thick would produce good results?
Got me on that one..

I agree w/Mike. We built a 6.5 WSM short, shortened about .275)and turned the necks to .014 w/.002 between the loaded neck & chamber. Shot one,5 shot) group in the low 2's,.238) @ 200 Yds! My experience shows that the thicker the brass, the more often annealing is required. Short & Fat,the short powder column combustion effeciency=consistency=accuracy) Is Where Its At!!! I have two 6.5 wssms that are based on the 243 case. They both are done with the same reamer and have a .300 neck diameter. They both shoot extremely well. There is a guy named Martin Dailey that shoots at Williamsport also that has done well for several years with a6.5-25wssm.
