wsm on a long action

Be throwing the idea of a Wsm build for quite some time. And I know there just not ideal when loading the heavies in a short action when being mag fed, and work decent in a medium action but pretty much stuck with with defiance or tikka, so I was wondering who’s done them on a long action? What action and mag system? Any feeding problems?

I've been flirting with the same thing but I have never owned a Tikka...always building Savage WSMs. I cant get my head around the tikka recoil lug concept.

That is usually fixed when building one

That can be “fixed” if you’re worried about it.
They can be machined to accept a Remington style recoil lug. I just spent some time searching for pics but couldn’t find them. Do you have any, Dusty? Don’t you do them that way?

All short actions, most on large shank but two 6.5wsm on small shank...small shank short action magnum bolt face from PTG.

I modified my mags to fit 3.050" max. Works good for 6.5wsm but 270wsm through 300wsm need a longer mag thats why I'm thinking about the Tikka action.

Tikkas have one of the smoothest bolts on the planet. That’s why I own ten of them. I’ve put custom barrels and stocks on 6.

Do you bed the lug into the stock? I see Titanium lugs for sale.

Yes, with a hole drilled thru the stock so it can be knocked out if needed.

Schneider #4 fluted, 27 1/2" length, 1-9 twist, 5P
Manner EH2 with mini chassi
Wyatt's center feed box and Rem.700 bdl bottom metal
Jewell trigger with safety
Throated for the new ELD-X 212 and Berger 215 Hybrids

The feeding is Awesome, no hang ups at all. The rifle shoots like a dream

Awesome thanks guys. I’m not too keen on using a tikka for some reason. I will if I have too but would love to do it on a bighorn tl3 or sr3 action just don’t know if a mag feed would work of if bottom metal is the only way

Not trying to jack this thread. what is the disadvantage to the tikka recoil lug? Is there not enough area on them or are they not solid? I’m just looking at a picture of one, I have no experience with them.
