Saw this article today:
HMCS Athabaskan is headed for the scrappers. In 1985/86 I was on the USS Cavalla (SSN684) out of Pearl Harbor on WESTPAC, by a story I will not repeat here we ended up in Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. (For those that are less geographically talented, that is not in WESTPAC) The Athabaskan was in port. I ended up in the crews mess, and the Queen bought a whole lot of Crown Royal that night. They poured me down the brow and I stumbled back to my boat minus my ships ball cap but richer by one Canadian Navy beret. (wore it underway until I got out)
