Wow, 22 RF's semi autos are - dirty :)

Volquartsen .22 WMR getting the weekly scrub a dub.
Takes awhile, but this rifle does shoot very well, so worth the effort, my .02.
Just a great rifle. I shoot w 556 can and it is - even more accurate.

Another er- random post. Hoppe's & air compressor are useful.

:)

I run a Ruger 1022 for Steel Challenge. I use a dental scaler to clean the crud off of the breach face and the bolt face to keep it running. Only do a major clean a couple of times a year. Gun is run dry.

I am not trying to be a smart eleck, but the inside of your silencer probably looks like the Volquartsen does if it's welded construction. It can lead to problems.

Good point, I have a Silencerco Sparrow + probably best to switch em. The Sparrow can be taken apart to clean, a major advantage.

+1 on Skeejlc's use of a dental pick. I have a Slilencerco Sparrow also. Gets sonic cleaned after 350 rounds of rimfire or it becomes very difficult to take apart due to carbon build up. However, it makes rimfires truly silent.

yup, i use these too. Also have one in a hard plastic that stays sharp and durable. very handy. actually I enjoy cleaning. sometimes. I can clean my 6BR in about 45 secs, tho!

hmm, sonic cleaner. I knew I had to buy something else.

Bit off topic. Decided to clean all suppressors today. I used CLR full strength. Disassembled the Sparrow, soaked in a glass baking tray. Had to use a dental pic for final lead removal.

For the others, I made a 12" "soaking" tube w /cap - using schedule 40 pipe 2" ID in which to soak (non-user serviceable). Great results. No fumes.

Dried using mini tabletop oven @ 225 deg.
Dinner is served. kinda.

I clean my ss revolver cylinders by submersing them in Hoppes No 9 in a piece if PVC tube. The lead deposits and other gunk will wipe right off after a few days soaking.

Back when .22 LR ammo started looking like it "may" be tough, to get, I bought, a bunch of .22 Fed Auto Match ammo,.. YIKES !
IT is, Dirty and Leads Badly as, the Lead Bullets,.. are, "Soft" !
But they shoot,.. "well" usually grouping, 1/2" to 5/8 th's at 50 yards,. Sage Rats, are NOT thrilled, tho !
My 10-22 Rifle, with, a 20" SS, Bentz Match, chambered, Green Mountain Barrel is, useless, after about, 300- 350 rounds of them.

Idaho-Lefty: Found that all of my 10/22s and variants became problematic after 350 rounds. So, that is my cleaning point also. Interesting that it is also the limit for my # of rounds through the suppressor.

I don't have a real expensive suppressor, but the one I have serves my needs well enough. When I feel that carbon and other gunk is building up inside it, it gets disassembled and receives a 15 minute soak in the 50/50 DIP solution:

No scrubbing, just let it soak for 15 minutes. If it's not clean after the first 15, give another 15 until parts come out clean.
No, it will not hurt aluminum unless you leave the parts in the solution for more than two days.
Yes, the solution will afterward contain lead acetate. It's gotta go somewhere, so use rubber gloves and don't drink any.
