Would You?

I have a McMillan Edge stock with a Savage single shot action that shoots very good as is but the action is about to be re barreled and I would like opinions about bedding it.
So would you mess with it or try it first to see how it does. New barrel is 30BR old 6x45.

P.S. this new one will be nutless.

I built a rifle a couple years ago, and didn't bed it at all. It shoots very well, but I guess there is always room for improvement. I'm thinking that if properly done there should be nothing lost, but ----

I kind of wish that I'd have done it when I was putting the thing together, and now I wouldn't be racked with indecision.;) jd

Well, "FWIW", the action/stock combo is presently shooting pretty good. I would re-barrel the action and put it back in the un-bedded stock and shoot it enough to get a feel if the accuracy is up to your standards.

Then you can either leave it alone or do a good bedding job and see how bedding affects the performance. The exercise will help you make similar decisions in the future. Changing one element of the system at a time is generally a good idea.

There is absolutely nothing to loose with a good bedding job. But, you may be shocked at what there is to gain. At least based on my personal experience. Good luck! :D:D
