Would like to get into the sport

I am new to the forum and I have never done any competitive shooting and I would like to start (I have done a few military shoots). Funds are limited for a new rifle at this time but I do have a few factory rifles that have been in my safe for some time that could be used in some capacity. I am looking for some guidance, I would like to get into some sort of competitive shooting but I do not know what discipline or what rifle to use. I am looking for suggestions/ advice. First off I live in MA. The rifles I have are; a Winchester model 70 target bull barrel with aperture sights in 30-06 (mint shape), Tanner competition rifle in 7.5x55 with offset aperture sights (mint shape) from the late 1970s, Hammerli 300m free rifle in 7.5x55 from the 1950s. Does anyone have any thoughts of what sort of event that one of these could compete at? I also have a number of single shot high power martini target rifles but did not list them as I would bet they would even be a longer shot for possibilities. Thanks for the help. The bigger issue may be finding an event in MA.

Try Fclass. It's a fun match and very popular. Shoot your favorite gun in the open class and give it try. Any front rest and rear bag will get you started. A mat to lay on and your in business.

Does your '06 or the Tanner rifle have a clip slot milled into the receiver? If so, it sounds to me like they're setup to shoot XTC highpower. If you're able to stand, sit, and lay down you can shoot highpower.

Check out the following links for information about highpower in MA.

Yes the 30-06 has a slot milled into the receiver. One other thing, I would also prefer to use the peep sights. I am not the biggest fan of scopes.

The tanner is a bolt action single shot. What kind of competition was that rifle built for? It also has a very interesting lever under the trigger guard that must be actuated before a shot can be taken. The rifle really looks like a work of art. Anyone know what this style of rifle was used for?
