I bought a 783 Rem, I have Sav Small Shank Barrels, the recess in the bolt face on the 783 .134 on a savage it's .115 If I put a Savage Barrel on and headspaced with shims or make a shim and fireformed the brass. Would this would be doable or no, just buy the correct barrel. I change out barrels quite often on my Salvages I have large and small shank Rec. I think this could be doable if I will be very careful with lots of measuring. But I may just buy a barrel and leave the excitement alone.

It won't work the way your thinking , I've done at least a dozen maybe 2 .
The problem is the chamber depth , your 783 bolt nose MAY hit the savage barrel . It's a hit or miss , just take the savage barrel to a machine shop and have them take off the dif in bolt depth or slightly less . You want about .005 clearance between bolt and barrel with a gauge in .
