I have a project that I am hoping you guys can help me with. I recently bought a rifle with a Wotac 4-14x50 scope attached. At some point in time the rifle must have been dropped/tipped over causing the scope to malfunction. Upon initial inspection after noticing the issue the elevation turret moved like a joystick and had about 1/4" vertical play. I have decided to try and see what I can do to fix it before I designate it as a paperweight. I was able to disassemble the elevation turret and remove the spindle, and sure enough the elevation spindle is sheared right in half. The spindle itself seems to be made out of aluminum, a brass one would probably have fared a little better. From what I have seen it looks like Mr. Wonders and Wonders Optics LLC have disappeared from existence. So getting a replacement part from the manufacturer is really not a likely option. Are there any other manufacturers that may use the same part? I was thinking that maybe I could JB Weld or silver solder it back together, but I really don't know if there is enough surface area to get a good bond. Another option would be to drill out the upper half of the spindle and tap in a stud to replace the broken part. I'm by no means a machinist but it appears that the stud diameter is roughly .232" and 26tpi (do these number sound correct? would that maybe be a 15/64"x26tpi, or a m6x1?). If either of the above options works all I should have to do is re-pilot the holes for the spring and detent, slap it all back together and cross my fingers. I'm no expert on optics repair hopefully I didn't purge all the nitrogen removing the spindle, but I guess I'll deal with that when the time comes. If any of you have any experience fixing scopes, or have any helpful insight it would be greatly appreciated.
**Also if anyone should have a broken Wotac that they might want to part with let me know- Thanks
