Working up a Load

I'm sure it's been talked about before, but I'd like to hear how you work up a load. I have already selected a bullet that should be appropriate for my twist. How do you select a powder, charge weight and seating depth? There must be some methodology to this? I'd like to hear your process.

google Dan Newberry's OCW. Works well and saves time and components. And can be done at 100 yards to find a good load

Do my charge workup then find that then next time do same method with different seating depths and that's it.

I refer to my reloading manuals which give me numerous powder choices along with charge weight ranges.

choose bullet
load 3 of each charge weight starting from lowest
shoot 1st 3 note group - note any pressure signs -flat primers - hard bolt lift -ect.
cool barrel -few minutes -depends on ambient
if desired accuracy is not acheived
repeat process with another type- make- weight- bullet
if your real serious start at the lands - the pressure is greater
so start at min charge weight & watch for pressure signs
most of my accuracy loads are 1 or 2 grains above minimum charge weight
.002 off the lands
there are many good bullets
I use several different brands
when all else fails to produce a acceptable load
Sierra bullets -have worked well for me in barrels that are hard to find a decent load for
they are good place to start -or end
hope this helps

I do refer to my reloading manuals. I also know that some can get an idea of which powder to start with based on caliber, bullet weight, ect. I was just hoping for some insight on that.

Thanks Willoughby. That's more of what I'm looking for. I have a 6mm BR with a 1-8" 26". I also have a Cooper .243 with a 1-9" coming soon I'll be loading for.
