wood stock for Savage 93R17?

Looking for a wood sporter stock for this rifle. It has the molded plastic stock. I've only seen thumbholes, and they don't fit me well.

Appreciate any help, Tom

Boyd's website lists a sporter style laminate stock with a varmint wt barrel channel. They say it fits a 93E / Mk II. I'll call them tomorrow and ask if the stock will work with a 93R.

I made a stab at bedding the plastic stock, but there's nothing to bed to. Just bulkheads, ribs, and holes, so I'm not at all confident that it helped. I'll shoot it tomorrow and see what happens.

Shot the rifle yesterday with 5 different kinds of ammo. Could only use the 50 yd range. Very disappointing results. Should have shot essentially one hole at 50 yds. Best group was with CCI 17gr ammo. Just over 1/2" or 1 moa.

Called Boyd's this morning and talked to a guy that knows these rifles. The 93 E / MK II stock will work with the 93R by just opening the back 3-4" of the barrel channel for the larger step on the old barrel. He also said that there is a place on the stock that you can look into the inside of it. Didn't try too hard to understand where it was. I want a stock that can give the rifle a chance, and like I said, don't particularly care for thumbholes. This one sounds like it will do nicely.
Called Savage and ordered the stainless floorplate, trigger guard, and 4 screws. Everything will be in sometime next week. Total cost will be just less than $150 shipped. If the rifle still won't shoot, I'll barrel it up with a Lilja 9 twist stainless barrel. If it comes to that, I would want a good stock anyway, so getting this stuff makes sense no matter what.

I had excellent service from Boyd's and Savage.

Looks like I'm talking to myself, but I received the stock from Boyd's today. Nice looking stock, well finished and inletted, but it has the same void under the front bedding screw as the factory thumbhole and factory plastic stock. I will shoot it as is, but expect to have to fill that big void and bed the action. We'll see.

I just keep on plugging.

Bowfisher, I've been out of pocket for the last several days, and it will be awhile before I get to shoot again.

Queen_stick, I haven't been successful at posting pictures, but Boyd's has a picture on their website. Search their site for DW Savage 93-E/MKII. Best I can do so far.
