A neighbor out here in the country passed away recently. His sister came over from Austin and told me she had her brother and dad’s guns and reloading equipment. She offered me the reloading equipment and supplies if I would come get them and give them a good home. A complete loading set up and supplies. But when I saw the home made box I knew what it contained before I open it. A Bausch & Lomb spotting scope from the 50/60’s. The other surprise was taped to the lid of the box. The owners 1966-67 membership card to the Tomball Gun Club, Tomball Tx.

That is pretty cool! Are the optics clear enough to use? That would be the ultimate show of respect to use that scope every time you went to the local range. I get it that it wouldn't work for matches or preparing for a match.

That is a great gift, very high quality when manufactured and better than most on the market today. The new lens coatings improve breaking daylight and dusk vision, but middle of the day most won't see any improvement over more recent scopes. I use a 1970s B&L 15to60X scope and B&L 7X50 binocular (1944 Marine Corp. issue), heavy and bulky, but good in the truck. We compared the B&L scope and a newer Pentax scope with the changeable lenses. We couldn't see any difference with our old geezer eyes. I still use B&L scopes on my pre 64, M-70s, 2.5 to 8 in Buehler Mts. I bought the 300 Win Mag.in April of 1964, new from the store, where I taught SCUBA diving. The 270 Win. was a gift. Use that scope it will bring you great joy.

Both B&L and Unertl spotters were and are top notch choices if the X fits your needs. Both have absolutely top notch glass, what you would expect from each of the makers.
