Wolf vs Federal 210M primers

I like Federals because I don't see delayed ignition on some of them. When ignition delays or hangs it can't help accuracy. Matt

Anytime you change anything in a load work up again. I really liked wolf primers and still have some. But to the powers that be they are a thing of the past. It took a couple tries to realize that I needed to really put the pressure on the wolf primers to seat them properly or I would get fail to fire or hang fire but once I learned to properly seat them I never had another problem. It all depends on what caliber and really the individual firearm as well as components used that will dictate SD and ES in my experience.

I've never had a hang or misfire with a Wolf/Tula large rifle primer but i always make sure they are seated fully. Maybe i'm just lucky. What i do like about the Russian primers is that they seat very tight in the pocket as they seem to be a tad larger in diameter and are good for brass that has pockets that are stretched. With the loads i've shot with Russian primers the ES/SD was low.

I've used more than 6k of the Wolf/Tula with no problem. Your problem with them will be finding them since they are no longer imported due to the embargo.

So do you think the Wolf/Tula are a little bigger OD. I know Fiocchi primers seem to run a little bigger. The reason I ask is a friend of mine was running a hotter load than what he thought and loosened the primer pockets in some Lapua brass. I am thinking I might be able to save some of them, at least for a steel match and not have to worry about losing brass, if the Wolf/Tula are in fact bigger.

They are bigger and yes I have actually measured them with a micrometer. But for you and your friend to be sure, I would suggest buying some and doing some measurements to convince yourself directly.

I found that ES/SD was actually higher than the Wolf/Tula primers I've used even after re-working the loads.

Loads were .308 using Lapua Brass and 175 gr bullets with a variety of common powders.

Almost ALL of my loads were "single digit" with the Russian primers.

Some of the early Wolf Primers I purchased years ago in single box lots had some delayed ignition problems. I bough a case of them just before Powder Valley changed to Tula and a case of Tula's shortly after. The problem went away once the single box lots were used up.

Yes, the Wolf and Tula primers do take a little more seating pressure but then again, I find that they aren't as prone to leakage when shooting stout loads.

Just because the ES and SD is lower doesn't mean at 1000 yards the vertical is less. I have tested this a lot and the numbers don't coincide. Matt

Thanks guys, I was sure that was the case as most European primers I have run across have been a dab bigger. This brass has four or five loadings on it, and I think it is a prime candidate for matches and not have to worry about picking them up (like I said previously)

I have found IMO that the Tula ( haven't tried Wolf but almost, if not identical) gave me the lowest ES/SD and least vertical for my .284 @ 1000. Greater seating pressure is needed and they are a "bit" larger in diameter. If your primer pockets are loosening up and using another brand of primer, switch to Russian made and they'll be "snug" again. CCI BR2's are a very close 2nd and at times I can find no difference in vertical or ES/SD. No recent experience with the 210's. Eric in DL

I shot Palma .308 Every test Wolf gives me Lowest SD.
210M are 2nd lowest.
Never had a round not go off with Wolf . That problem was do to poor seating by users.

Guilty...In the begining of my start with Wolf/Tula. Mostly because of the extra effort in seating them. Most of my guns have been switched to them.

Targets at 1000 yards, a lot of times will not show that the smallest ES or SD is not the best groups. Many times it is opposite. Matt
